i read online that lidocaine can be used to numb skin, i was curious if anyone on here has ever tried using it to numb themselves before they cut so they can cut without feeling any pain.

i don't plan on using it because i don't want to accidentally cut too deep cause i can't feel it. I'm just curious how that would work.

No, the point of it for me is to feel the pain

No, I cut when I'm in crisis and the last thing I think of is to numb my skin before I cut. The pain is what helps ground me and gives me a release. I also doubt you'll be completely numb with OTC lidocaine cream, it takes time to work and even then you'll still likely feel pain.

What an interesting perspective. Yeah, like everybody else said, the pain is the point for me, feels exhilarating to relieving to grounding, but maybe if my main interest was not in the sensation, but instead in the physical/visual damage and scarring, then I'd numb first. I'm so curious if anyone feels that way :0

I actually considered this quite a lot, since I cut for blood/damaging and less for pain. However I don't know how it would work?

it never hurt thaaat bad for me to want a cream like that, in the moment the pain doesnt matter, especially if i use something sharp and swipe fast. i feel like it would only work for shallow, surface cuts, it wouldnt really numb deeper than that, you would need what they inject before giving you stitches. which imo burned so much more than the deep cut that got me the stitches in the first place. only other way is taking substances that would make you numb from the inside out, or dull it a lot at least, but that makes cutting even more dangerous if you slip up, so i dont recommend it. getting drunk and cutting gave me nerve damage, even tho i was still drunk hitting it made my vision go white. i only ever heard of that happening from pain in stories, it shocked me to learn it happens lol
