I was watching Tantacrul's video on the site just for kicks and I found it a little funny. "Appalling" "Horrifying" "Difficult to comprehend". They act like we're monsters, when they are. There was an article about it as well, and that was pretty funny too. Talking about "it's sad that it's four times more visited than the suicide lifeline" yeah, well fuck you. Maybe if your services were better it wouldn't be. I'm not pro-suicide in the sense I'm not walking around going kys kys kys kys, but I still am pro suicide. Anyway- who else finds this funny or angering?

I think they're the same as people who are pro-life and against abortion.
They care about you so much until you're out of depression. I don't know if this makes a lot of sense, but they glaze you so much and tell you you deserve so much more and all that shit then when you disagree with them they act like you've betrayed them.

i think there is also a deep misunderstanding of what this website is and CAN be. people dont end up on this site because they love life and after seeing a post about suicide randomly decide to kill themselves therefore blaming the site seems very dishonest. any community CAN be toxic and i am sure that this one is no different but my experience with the site has been extremely positive. ive never felt encouraged to commit, if anything i felt safe to vent and openly discuss suicide.
and you are absolutely right - if the resources were better - people would use them but they are bs. the waiting lists are crazy long and also according to the poll on this site over 55% of people are receiving some form of treatment (meds/therapy/ or both).
my views on suicide are complicated. i have lost a person very close to me to suicide and i do believe it is a very final solution but id be a hypocrite to criticise or judge others for it since i have attempted and i know that my life will most likely end this way.
imo if someone is on this site and they commit suicide - its not the site! its the fact that they felt the need to be on it in the first place and bashing this site when sometimes its the only community people have just shows a lack of understanding.

Before joining I thought it was as they said where everyone was simply encouraging each other to ctb. But with how hopeless I am, I signed up to see for myself how the form is... and no, it wasn't that bad.

Honestly, it seems like most people just think "If you're not AGAINST suicide ALWAYS, you're pro-suicide." . They'd also rather quickly find a scapegoat for suicides fast and easy then really understand. They COULD understand, and then they could be more effective, but that would come with the risk of realizing there's nothing they can do. Thus, they essentially say "Get Over It", or focus on the symptom of being suicidal rather then the true cause of it.

I've also noticed that with most coverage, it's like "This person joined, learned how to effectively ctb, and ctb'd." . It's focused on blame and liability instead of the people, or what brought us here. Always the narrative that they joined for no particular reason, then killed themselves for no particular reason. Is this really how much average people can understand us? How awful.

If it weren't for the BBC and YouTube, I never would have found this place, so I am glad these influencers are journalists helped me find out about it.

I wonder if any of these people who perceive the hotline as some kind of panacea even know anything about it

It's a mix of annoyance and sadness personally. Atleast in my community, when the topic of ctb comes up, people are either shoving Jesus down your throat, shaming you w/ "the mental illness is made up"/"people are so weak nowadays", or most commonly, the whole slew of "your life's story is still open", "suicide is just transferring the pain to others", blah blah responses. God do they have lots to say while they know nothing. If ppl were more open, and weren't as poised to go yap about the aforementioned points, then this forum either wouldn't exist or be much smaller.

I feel like tantacrul's video thumbnail is the funniest. nobody is ever going to say "do it." here, you probably have a higher chance of receiving that message on instagram reels comments than this forum.

also i find it funny when people call this place death cult as if we all have the same goal
