Death is a part of life. Hiding away in our homes without income is ridiculous. It will just lead to homelessness, starvation, crime, and everyone will still be exposed to the virus no matter what.

People let their emotions govern them and I hate seeing such weakness in world leaders.

100% agree. I was reading about how food banks are overwhelmed with the drop in donations and the surge of people in need. I'm not really one to care much about the masses but, man, that one hit me hard. This whole thing is going to decimate the middle class. But maybe that's what they're hoping for, idk.

Ok, but do you propose closing hospitals entirely or only to anyone with Covid19? Either way medical personnel could be endangered as people try to get treatment by force; a plan for their protection would be a good idea. At the same time lots of medics will no doubt riot to be allowed to treat people; maybe they could be isolated on freighters converted into field hospitals (for non-Covid patients, that is).

You also need a plan for picking up and disposing of bodies.

Who me? Neither; it's just a thought experiment. And maybe some havoc *is* in the best interests of the world.

Hospitals would stay open. They would become overburdened. Overpopulation is finally being taken care of. No one would deal with it before through personal responsibility, so it's time to let nature correct the imbalance.
Is this in the best interest of mankind or do you wish to wreak havoc?
Both. The world population is not compromised of strictly the best. There's people entangled in it who wouldn't be here without the support of a weak society.

Only if you believe people should die by how strong or weak they are
It's not about what I believe. It's just how nature operates when people don't interfere with it.

Not everyone wants to die and I think as a society we should protect those as much as we are able to. The economy would suffer just as much as it is now with a significantly higher death toll.

The cases of mortality are primarily in people of a retired age or people who are already very sick. It may sound heartless to say so, but in all honesty their deaths would free up resources for up and coming generations. Housing prices would go down, social security might not collapse, possibly some equalization of wealth. The economy would take a hit, but nothing as bad as a prolonged shutdown. The current strategy hurts young people most, and the longer the economy stays shut down the worse recovery is going to be. Fewer people are paying into payroll taxes right now and more people are seeking benefits from job loss. It's not the at risk demographic who is going to be paying for this. It's the already economically stunted 30 and under crowd. Condemning one generation to give another a few years longer. From a strategic perspective, yes, letting coronavirus do it's thing benefits the future. People are going to die either way, honestly. It's the trolley problem. Who do you save?

The virus is just washing over the world. The world being a geographic reference and not a quantitative measurement of how many people get infected. The disruption is global because the economic system is global. The people who are sending little prayers that everyone dies will be spotted later begging for help and trying to save their own skin.

I see. Is there a point to keeping them open until they either collapse or are taken over by whoever can hold them, rather than closing them right from the get-go?

And you still have all the bodies piling up. How are you planning to collect and dispose of them?

NB1: I did my part in curbing the birth rate, so please don't say "nobody" did. Not enough, but not nobody.

NB2: For me this is purely a thought experiment, but I really do want to know what the enthusiasts plan to do with/about all the corpses.

DUN DUN DUUUUUNNN!!!

Okay, sorry for being an idiot right there, I kind of had to. I couldn't resist. :pfff:

On the topic of this thread, I have to say that I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, it seems ridiculous to hide from this virus when we should just let it do it's thing. All storms, literal or metaphorical, always rain themselves out eventually and there will always be someone around to clean up the mess after the carnage is done. By hiding away from it, it's just going to make this pandemic last longer because it will always find a way to escape quarantine and safety procedures. If we just let it wash over the world, then it will be over in no time. Will a lot of people die? Sure, but they already have, which shows that the quarantine hasn't been anywhere near as effective as we hoped and has only served to prolong this nightmare.

On the other hand, the process of dying from this illness sounds absolutely horrible. Even for people who want to die, they shouldn't be going out of their way to catch this virus when there are more peaceful ways of doing it AND people who are physically vulnerable who want to keep on living should do everything they can to protect themselves. That also means that people who have empathy and care about others should do the best they can to avoid spreading the virus unknowingly to those people who are vulnerable, but still want to live. With that in mind, the quarantine makes sense. When I think about it that way, I feel like I should disagree with you about letting it wash over the world.

Ultimately, if this virus caused every person that was infected to just fall over dead within hours of getting infected and only experience minor symptoms beforehand, I would say bring it on. Let it spread like a wildfire because I want to get infected ASAP. At least everyone would be at peace after it was finished with us. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19's severe symptoms for those who have and will die(d) from it, I don't think it should be allowed to spread everywhere. Even though the quarantines and social distancing haven't completely stopped this thing, maybe it would have been worse without those.

The corpses should be incinerated like they're doing in China.

Brazil is letting it run wild. Their death rate is lower than the U.S's too.

That's the intent of whoever created it. To reduce world population. There should be a stronger one, to wipe all the humans. We already wrecked this planet enough.

Sure, it could be a bio-weapon perhaps unlikely.

The planet being wrecked or healthy is only relevant so long as we are here.

Nothing kills in an instant. Your post reminds me of people who beg for death without realizing they have to do it themselves.

what I mean by that death "in an instant" as in shorter period of time, perhaps a few minutes up to an hour,
as opposed to a few weeks on hospital bed if even lucky enough to get one.

I'd say most methods mentioned on this forum takes up to a few hours?
