benzodiazepines help reduce my overall anxiety, but it's been hard for me to get to that sweet spot without passing out

I think most depressants will help you dull your SI. Alcohol & benzodiazepines will do the trick.

Cannabis is what I'd personally go for if I wanted to avoid vomiting caused by alcohol, though you have to be careful with the dosage to avoid growing sleepy midway or raising your anxiety level instead. When you hit the sweet spot, you should feel a mild positive buzz and maybe a tiny bit tipsy.

You could also try doing practice runs with something like cut-up vitamin tablets (to simulate AE tablets) and salt water to grow mentally used to the process.

For me Cannabis would freak me the fuck out. I used to smoke daily for 2-3 years on hand. Since then whenever I smoke I get this unexplainable paranoia.

I've tried it many times and sadly there is no sweet spot. Benzodiazepines reduce overall anxiety, but unfortunately, they're not the magic wand we'd like it to be. But even if they make it easier by 10 percent, it's still worth it. One by one and we'll succeed. Also, mixing it with alcohol might be a good idea.
