  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

Why are you anti-psychiatry ?
I believe its based on profits and coercion. I was put on SSRIs at the age of 13. Things went downhill from there. what kind of a monster puts a child on medications when there was not even an need. my biggest regret is that I visited that psycho gaslighting psychiatrist. She put me on medication and ordered my family to put me in a psych ward when I was just 14 years old because I was self harming myself.
Here in Pakistan, medications are being like prescribed as if they are candy.

Well it definitely depends on the person but they can't really help you get out of tough situations can they? If my life has fallen apart and I plan on killing myself to cope, a talk with a therapist is not gonna help. I don't really know much about the topic. Sometimes I feel like it is a worthless grift but I'm just dumbass me and idk.

I am not anti-psychiatry. Why would I be anti-mental-health-therapy?
What I am against is poor management in health services and the odd sociopath you'll meet who enjoys having some kind of power over his/her patients.

If having an expensively paid friend, that is PAID to sit in the position of friend, that indeed may not be a friend at all, and may indeed not have your best interests at heart as a true friend should is what you need or the only way you can find someone to talk to and it stay to just talk, then go for it. the second that friend begins to insists on medications 'to be able to even talk to you' or suggesting inpatient care or any type of care that YOU are not comfortable with, RUN. If you WANT to be medicated, take a strong warning, ONCE you have begun medications you have then given the psychiatric community legal weaponry to use against you and this may mean you will end up being medicated against your will for the REST OF YOUR LIFE.

I am opposed to involuntary intervention, especially drugging people with antipsychotics against their will, which basically amounts to psychiatric rape. Involuntary treatment is no treatment at all. Surely, psychiatric treatment has helped some people, but many others have been horribly maimed by malpractice and they're often derided as fools or lunatics when they're some of the most vulnerable members of society who have more fair grounds on which to review its effectiveness than most. The whole system of giving someone supreme authority to decide whether you're "sane" or not and label you as they please is rather despicable, as is "treatment" under a profit motive. I wouldn't want to discount it entirely, but psychiatry has a lot to answer for.

I agree. There's too many people in the healthcare industry, especially mental health focused, that lack empathy and don't care to actually help people.

My current therapist is really great and I'm lucky to have someone who I can be open with, but I've had a lot of crappy ones before this point.

Yes. After I was sectioned, a psychiatrist along with his team did a medication review on me.
I could immediately tell that he liked that he was the "chief whip" in the team and everybody else did as he said.

Throughout the review, he never made eye contact with me and only spoke while looking down at his notes. Occasionally he would glance at one of his colleagues.
I interrupted him and asked him outright who he was talking to, me or his colleagues. He said he was talking to me.
So I replied by saying that if he's talking to me would he respect social etiquette and look at me while he is talking to me. The room went dead silent.
I then said that he had only been looking at his papers with the occasional glance to his colleagues, so I demanded we start again, which we did.
Never had any issues with him after that.

I've spent years in therapy and many thousands of dollars and I was on antidepressants for 25 years… Never ever got to the core of what was wrong with me… Maybe that's my fault but therapy turned out to be pretty useless…

I was systemically abused by psychologists telling me my pain was psychosomatic even after getting checked out by real doctor, and having verified tests done on me and my condition. They basically gaslit me to attempt to make me think my symptoms were psychosomatic.
