I have many reasons to end things. But one thing that cemented it for me recently was watching the Anthony Bourdain documentary last month. Called 'Roadrunner'.

What an amazing sensitive man he was.

There is a section where he visits a psychiatrist. He allows a camera to film this.

The psychiatrist asks him....
"Do you really want to change anything?"
"Do you really want to change the way you feel?"

Anthony pauses for a long time.
He replies with a definitive certainty.
He says..
"I suspect it's too late"

That shit hit me hard.
He didn't just 'suspect' things were too late to change. He KNEW it.

Watching Anthony speak to people about happiness it was clear to me his small bursts of happiness were really forced. He just had so many internal troubles. Huge trouble to maintain a level of happiness. This was more than just life events fucking him up. His persona. His character... His mental anguish. After trying so hard to be comfortable in his skin. He just wanted to leave.

That's where I am right fucking now.
It's too late now. I tried so damn hard.
And I have made peace with that.

Anthony Bourdain was the closest thing to a hero or idol to me. This documentary is a blatant cash grab and a spit on his grave. It went against everything Bourdain stood for as a story teller and filmographer.

Did you know these asshole used deepfakes for some of the narration? They artificially generated his voice using AI. It is not his words. I guess this just goes to show even in death people will find ways to exploit you.

Ah shit.

Can you recommend any good watches regarding him @eternalmelancholy ?

I found the documentary from OP but a few recommendations came up alongside it. There's quite a handful to pick from. Parts unknown sound interesting. I'm not sure if that just because of the trailer park boys character, Bubbles using it as a phrase for his alter ego the green bastard though. Ha. Its kind of sunk itself into my psyche having been a big fan of that show. Funny how things like get in you isn't it!? :D

I think I might work my way through a few of his shows anyway as I never picked up on him before now. I've enjoyed David Chang in a few things. I see he's in the vid from OP. I hope he didn't have any part in the cash grab you referred to.

No Reservations and Parts Unknown is what made him famous/beloved. His book Kitchen Confidential is what got him started in the industry. There are tons of interviews on youtube as well. This is probably one of my favorite interviews.

He was always an idol of mine too. I watched (and still do occasionally) both of his shows and have read a few of his books. I remember noticing his depression throughout both of his TV series and I always found it endearing and thought it made him more relatable and real. I remember watching one episode of No Reservations where he visited Japan and thinking he seemed pretty deeply depressed. You could see it even through the editing and polish. I remember feeling bad for him but at the same time just relating with him. You could be in a place you love, getting to document and experience so many wonderful things, for a living no less, but it doesn't matter if things aren't right at your core.

Yeah I remember some of the episodes had a very gloomy undertone. I didn't think much of it at the time. But I guess you really never know what someone is thinking.

I hear ya there. The 'AI voice' was not necessary. At least they were his written words being spoken though. I watched a 'torrent' of the doc so they got no money from me!

The documentary seemed (in my opinion) to get as many people close to Anthony involved. I'm not sure it was blatantly made for the cash. There seemed to be some very genuine heart to it all.

Was a bit disappointed Asia Argento was not involved giving any interview.
But then again her involvement with Anthony and the whole Weinstein case. All that stuff is so muddy. Plus it appears she did leave Anthony for another man?
I dunno. Relationships are so fucked up. They fuck so many people up. People fuck each other up so often.
