I often study the idea of suicide. Researching the people who have committed suicide and what their views on suicide were for them. I know personally I view suicide as an act of mercy. I still like to see what others thought of the ultimate act of self preservation. So I've tried to compile some quotes from people who have viewed suicide in the same light as I do.

"The so-called 'psychotically depressed' person who tries to kill herself doesn't do so out of quote 'hopelessness' or any abstract conviction that life's assets and debits do not square. And surely not because death seems suddenly appealing. The person in whom Its invisible agony reaches a certain unendurable level will kill herself the same way a trapped person will eventually jump from the window of a burning high-rise. Make no mistake about people who leap from burning windows. Their terror of falling from a great height is still just as great as it would be for you or me standing speculatively at the same window just checking out the view; i.e. the fear of falling remains a constant. The variable here is the other terror, the fire's flames: when the flames get close enough, falling to death becomes the slightly less terrible of two terrors. It's not desiring the fall; it's terror of the flames. And yet nobody down on the sidewalk, looking up and yelling 'Don't!' and 'Hang on!', can understand the jump. Not really. You'd have to have personally been trapped and felt flames to really understand a terror way beyond falling."
-David foster wallace

"I didn't want to wake up. I was having a much better time asleep. And that's really sad. It was almost like a reverse nightmare, like when you wake up from a nightmare you're so relieved. I woke up into a nightmare."
-Ned vizzini

"There comes a time when you look into the mirror and you realize that what you see is all that you will ever be. And then you accept it. Or you kill yourself. Or you stop looking in mirrors."
-Tennessee Williams

Ok, those are three quotes that I personally think describe my views on the ultimate act.

The first one, by Wallace, I really enjoy. I directly referenced this in the last suicide note I wrote. Comparing the act of suicide to the disparity of a person desperate enough to escape the greater of evils is spot on. If a person is trapped in a situation where they're stuck with only two options, a horrible death or a less horrible death, they will almost always choose the lesser of the two options. Just like a person who's suicidal. They, every day, are faced with two options. You life with an unbearable pain or to end that pain via suicide. In almost every situation where a person is faced with that dilemma they will choose suicide, the lesser of the two evils. So ya, I love that quote, and I love Wallace's work.

I've referenced this quote many times before because I think it best describes my opinion on life. Every day where I have to wake up I feel like I'm waking into a nightmare. Even if I was having a nightmare while asleep and thought I'd be relieved to wake up, I still discover that sleep was my reprieve.

The third quote represents the idea that we usually realize, eventually, that we've reached the point where we have no hope. There seems to be no room to improve in life. This Is the idea that embodies the gentleness is suicide. The mercy behind the act of selfishness. All we see is evil, and we must find a way to stop it.

Ok these are my favorites. Maybe toy have some of your own? Let me know if you do. I hope your all found this enjoyable.

I Hope everybody's having a good day. Remember to smile while once in a while, you all deserve it. Keep your heads up, reach for the stars knowing one day you'll be amongst them.

I didnt know who Ned Vizzini was-till i looked it up but i can most certainly relate to that quote ALOT. And every day feels worst than the last- the nightmare gets worst never relenting.
"People pontificate, "Suicide is selfishness." Career churchmen like Pater go a step further and call in a cowardly assault on the living. Oafs argue this specious line for varying reason: to evade fingers of blame, to impress one's audience with one's mental fiber, to vent anger, or just because one lacks the necessary suffering to sympathize. Cowardice is nothing to do with it - suicide takes considerable courage. Japanese have the right idea. No, what's selfish is to demand another to endure an intolerable existence, just to spare families, friends, and enemies a bit of soul-searching."
― David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas

― David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas It's from fiction rather than autobiographical quote-but still really like this one.
"The literal meaning of life is whatever you're doing that prevents you from killing yourself."
― Albert Camus

To have 'meaning' & a 'purpose' a sense of belonging and also love of course (and health for those that may be here due to ill health): for me these are reasons to live-without these things- it is my personal belief life is not worth living - quote by me-MeltingHeart
I like this - "People try to say suicide is the most cowardly act a man could ever commit. I don't think that's true at all. What's cowardly is treating a man so badly that he wants to commit suicide."
― Tommy Tran
