So, I am spending Christmas with my sister and mother. My sister smokes by standing near the back door with her head out the door (which our mum asked her not to do, she asked her to go outside entirely because she doesn't like the smell). Anyway I was in the kitchen at the time and it cause an asthma flare up which lasted overnight until the next morning. Whenever she walks past me after she's smoked my chest tightens and remains that way for a while.

Well her and mum are setting up for our meal and I wanted to spend the time with them - it's christmas. I asked my sister if she could change out of the smoking clothes (they're just house tracksuits) and she told me to shut up like I was driving her mad. I know if anyone else asked her she'd change and be apologetic. She is very nasty to me. I also know if I were affecting her health I'd change as soon as she said it.

Mum could use her power and ask her to take the 2 minutes to change her clothes so we could be together as a family but she hasn't. I'm pretty sure she'd ask me to change. It's nothing unusual for them to isolate and gang up on me but in this instance am I asking too much? I'm sitting in my room alone at christmas while they're playing music, jolly and festive. And to think I just came back from the store with dessert for everyone and got my sister what she asked for.

I just heard them shut the door. It's hurtful - it's like they've shut me out. As soon as I gain independence I won't be spending time like this with them.

I just went downstairs and mum's burned candles. She blew them out when I mentioned them but it's just shocking to me. She knows what she was doing.

You should put your psysical and mental health before them. Im so sorry that they are behaving like that, especially your mum cause she is a full grown up and knows
better.

Your sister is in the wrong. Asthma attacks can be very serious and what you asked of her is the pretty much the dictionary definition of reasonable. Your sister should appreciate that you even wanted to spend time with her in the first place despite her being an asshole.

If you ask me your family is genuinely fucking disgusting for that, you are absolutely in the right here, no one should have to put up with people like that.

That sounds like such an awful situation to be in, it sounds like the way that those other people behave is the thing that is wrong. Some people really can be so incredibly cruel.
