It's hard, but I feel like almost all people in the world suffer and are not happy. I can't figure out if this is really true or if my brain is distorting reality?
Not that this is very important for me, but still, it adds disgust to the feeling of life. If even normal people aren't happy, why should a worthless/freak/weakling like me exist?

I think that most people are happy or (give themselves) the illusion of it, we're the unhappy ones. We're the anomaly, the divergent ones, the ones that go against the norm. I think that most people live on autopilot and don't even think about whether they're happy or not, they just do whatever they're expected to do, never asking why. I think that most people are too burnt out to consider these questions or they intentionally shy away from doing so (because it would be too painful). They chase endless pleasures to satisfy the feeling of emptiness inside.

I don't think most people are happy at all. Some will say or try to prove they are to feed their egos, so they at least feel they are better than other people. Or they will bully the weakest people so that there is someone unhappier than them.

I think happiness is more of a fleeting state, I think being content is maybe more realistic as a general state but no- I don't think people are massively content. Life's hard for a lot of people. Most are working all hours to make ends meet. Most people have their own worries. A lot of the time, I think people have this kind of enforced gratitude about them. As in- we really ought to be thankful that things are no worse! I think most simply recognise that to get too down and resentful simply sends them in a downward spiral and, if they feel the responsibility to live (for their families, children etc.) they probably just focus on making the best of things.

I think that's the main difference between suicidal and non suicidal people. Suicidal people have quite often let go in a way I think. They are no longer buoying themselves up with pep talks and platitudes. Of course, there are genuinely happy people out there but, I haven't met quite so many!

In a way I don't think anyone is genuinely happy. But there are people who have a lot more to enjoy.

I know most people are happy and grateful to be alive.

I used to be one of them. Without depression, life is pretty amazing. People make of it what they can, even in harsh circumstances.

I know we try to convince ourselves that the whole life is sad and unhappy but it is just not true.

I see any so called "happiness" as being delusional in this reality, I don't even believe in the idea of it, existence truly is just nothing more than undesirable, unnecessary suffering. To exist as a human really is so burdensome, I'd always prefer the peace of death to existing in this hellish, disgusting world where there is endless potential to suffer.

No, most people are miserable and experience more boredom and stress than happiness. They are not depressed either. It's just us who are like this.

I think most people are generally okay, or "meh" if you want to be informal about it. The difference between them and us is that they have normally functioning emotions. They typically feel okay throughout their day-to-day, and if something positive happens they'll feel happy, if something funny happens they may laugh, if something bad happens, they'll feel sad, or perhaps angry, depending on what that bad thing is. Their emotions are functioning as intended, they have appropriate emotions to the appropriate situations and generally feel okay when there is nothing to provoke said emotions. So I'm not particularly surprised that people won't say they're "happy", generally speaking everyone's lives are probably just "meh" overall.
Then again, I'm saying this as someone who has suffered from depression for as long as I can remember, and have absolutely no concept of life without depression and a feeling of perpetual misery, so take what I said with a grain of salt. I have absolutely no idea what a "normal" life is or what experiencing normally functioning emotions is like or what it entails, this is just a shot in the dark on my part, but it sounds right to me.

i think a minority of people are truly "happy". many, if not all people spend massive amounts of energy and mental resources to have an acceptable and conforming outward appearance, because society tells you that is how you are supposed to be. you need a significant other with 2-3 kids, you need to work 5 days a week, you need to pay off a car and house for the next 3 decades etc.
obviously some people are better at occupying themselves with the everyday world than others, and may therefore have less time to actually think about how miserable they are inside.
