As a teenager, i cannot express how bad drinking has been to me. My father drinks every second he can. It is hell for me, he only doesnt drink when my mother is home, and my mother xomes home very late from work. Alcohol has rotten his brain, the sound of his slurred speech is unbearable, i have nightmares about it. I lock myself up in my room and do my homework and stuff there so i do not have to hear or interact with my father when he is drunk, every night. He usually drinks minimum a 6 pack of beers everynight, and has been doing so since his teens. My dad when sober however, is the best guy you will meet, and i think that is why i dread him being drunk; because he changes in his personality and everyway. I probably wont ctb because i love gardening and my grandparents amd other family members are very sentimental to me. But a message for all drinkers out there, please TRY and stop, my life is hell when this happens, every day after school in tears. There are many alternatives to try as addictive alcohol is. It has ruined my youth so dont let it ruin yourselves or a family member.

I understand but sobriety for me atleast sucks even more. It's especially hard to kick a habit that's one of the few legal substances and in your face constantly all the time. I've tried but I hate myself even more. I'm reminded of why I even did heroin cause I wanted to not feel like myself. Some say your looking for answers down the bottle, but atleast you forgot what the problem was. Apologies to disappoint.
I'm so sorry you are going through this though.

Sickofit thank you for this. I have a drink problem, I use it to block bad stuff out and function ok generally (with blips)but no excuses. I also have a teenager. Some of this rings alarm bells. I'm already feeling terribly guilty for all sorts of things related to my child, including even being on here (but it is helping, thank you) but I am taking your experience onboard.

I beg you to do so. I think my father may also do it to block out things. Socialise with your child, and play with him, however do it while sober because the last thing a kid wants is to see is their dads drunk. Im sure you are no too bad with your drinking however. My dad causes great grief during soccer days especially because while i train for soccer at a high level, which i hate, he just drinks alone. After that, when were leaving he tries to interact with some of the kids there, which is not only embaressing but heartbreaking and i am labelled the boy with the drunken father. Think about it from your kids perspective, what would make them be happy?

I know drugs and alcohol are so addictive, but perhaps try to find another hobby or thing you enjoy, as an escape route. One of my friend's father at school was an alcoholic like mine, but his dad went on an alkaline vegan diet, started by dr sebi, he fasted on grapes only for 30 days, grapes and water, his addiction neded and his mental health became perfect. Research dr sebi, and arnold ehret, and the alkaline vegan diet. I myself am not a vegan but this does look like it may aid you. But justa seggestion to help.

My problem is more existential. I don't enjoy anything even trying a new hobby wouldn't help. I appreciate you trying. Not everyone can be saved mate.

Imagine your child on a suicide website because of your addiction. My father has had the option to change but chooses not to, it has screwed my youth up, the sound of a beer opening hives me butterflies in your tummy. Your son may not show it but im sure he would be sad seeing a loved one out of character.

I can relate. I grew with a father much like you describe. There are groups out there you might wish to consider. Alateen seems to help some people I wish you the best

I cannot express how much I understand this. I grew up in a family of "functioning alcoholics"
My parents drank but they were great people and I wouldn't have traded them for nothing.
It wasn't until my dad died that my mom became full-blown alcoholic. 1.75 Liter of vodka
a DAY! She died of cirrhosis of the liver within months. She was as yellow as Big Bird.
Extremely traumatizing to me to have witnessed my mom withering away like that.
I feel for you young man.
