I am 20 years old, just got done with my first year of college. I absolutely miserable.

I want to ctb but I need some advice. I can't buy anything because my helicopter parents monitor each purchase. I also don't want to total a car and there are no cliffs in my area.

I am 5 foot 10 and 177 pounds. I don't have enough money to move out either. The two best methods I've seen are the shallow water blackout and partial hanging.

I do have a pool in my backyard, and some days I am home alone for a few hours. Which should I do? And how should I maximize my chances of success (because of SI)

Sorry for poor formatting, on my phone.

Sorry you're going through such a tough time.

yeah probably partial hanging, neck ties are commonly used and you can use a wardrobe or the door if you can find something long enough.

There can be a lot of complications with this method tho. Might be worth waiting until you're able to move out so you can try a different method idk

I feel like the shallow water blackout using your pool might be the better bet, that way if you fail you can make up a cover story so you don't get sent to a psych ward. I agree that if you can, it would be ideal to wait until you can get access to a better method. You also might find you don't feel as miserable once you're out on your own. Whatever you do, hope you find peace and if you choose to CTB that you have an easy transition ❤️

if you have a pool, then it might not be such a bad idea to try shallow water drowning.

just search up the megathread on it and your good to go. im pretty sure i saw it while browsing the megathreads section.

i suggest using some sort of weight to weigh yourself down. try not to include goggles with your shallow dive so that you can't see the weight and remove it as quickly. you can also make it roped to your ankle so that you need to spend more energy to just untie it.

i know this seems ironic coming from a person on this forum, but your only 20 man. are you really sure you've exhausted all of your options? can you afford psychiatric healthcare or any sort of alternatives like psilocybin therapy clinical trials?

My parents are... insane. They don't believe in depression (they do believe in anxiety) while I do have my own money its still in a shared bank account. Currently trying to open my own but my parents are making it as difficult as possible for me. Didnt help that their behavior scared away the girl I loved... man, typing this now really makes me look back. I doubt it was only my parents

hey lovely, if your parents dont believe in mental health i'm just curious as to whether you have ever seen a mental health professional, like a therapist? you're only 20 and i just want to make sure you've exhausted all other options because you're so so young.

honestly not sure if i want to ctb yet. I guess knowing that I can have a last resort is kind of comforting. Currently there is no guarantee.

If I do try to ctb do you think I should stand in the water and have a weight on my foot? (And then hyperventilate to pass out). I don't want to wake up and experience the pain of drowning

I really can't give you advice because I have no idea, but just saying what I would personally do- I would test the hyperventilating thing somewhere safe to see how much it actually takes to get yourself to black out, you don't want to jump in only for it to not actually work. Assuming you can consistently get yourself to the point of blacking out (doing that too much can lead to brain damage, so don't over do it, especially if you aren't committed to CTB yet). I've tried it not for CTB purposes but just out of curiosity and found that it's really hard for me personally, but i have friends who can do it really easily so you just have to find out how your body is. The only other issue you may have is your unconscious body rolling over in the water so that you're face up, even unconscious the human body has a hell of a survival instinct- whatever you think is the best way to go about avoiding that is really your call. I'd just be concerned that if you did you use a weight, you could run the risk of waking up, but then not be able to free yourself, which wouldn't be a pleasant experience.
