Dead are useless if not to love the living more

The only time I was on an anti-depressant (don't remember which one) is the only time I felt pushed to CTB impulsively (used the prescribed AD + alcohol)

I have over-estimated my well-being rebound of the last weeks and find myself on a difficult breakdown of mental pain and stomach (stress), bad enough that I exceptionally feel the urge for a treatment or I might crack open.

In the past, I self-medicated with supplements, mainly natural ones. It helped mildly to some extent. I used a mix of adaptogenic plants from the Ayurveda (Rhodiola, Ashwagandha), testosterone boosters (ZMA, Tribulus, Maca root), basic ones (algae oil for vegan Omega 3, vitamin D, etc), Propolis to cure asthma (bee wax, which worked well compared to the chemical routine I dropped), L-Theanine, etc (don't remember them all. There were more I wanted to try, like L-Dopa velvet beans for Dopamine, and more)
I was feeling better but I was taking so many I stopped. It was costing almost 200€ a month and I admit I was clueless about the interractions. It's possible that some supplements were totally unnecessary and others' potency downgraded due to the blending.

On the website that helped me learn this knowledge, I found an article about the few natural supplements deemed as potent as certain chemicals.
A study indicates curcumin at 1000mg per day reveals itself as potent as Prozac or Paxil, without the side-effects. It is said to act against oxydative stress and have really strong anti-inflammatory properties, which would be related to depression.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28236605 ...anti-anxiety is also mentioned

So, has anyone tried Curcuma extract (95% curcumin) + BioPerine/Piperine (from black pepper, supposed to increase the poor assimilation of curcumin by a mile) ?

PS : beware of curcuma marketed as root powder, the curcumin content is only 3%, you'll eat the daily food portion of an indian but not be medicated. You need a concentrated extract at 95%

@enjolras, since you only posted this a few hours ago, you may want to edit the title to read curcumin/turmeric. In the US it's called turmeric. Kind of like Brits say coriander and Americans say cilantro, and Indians say capsicum while Americans say bell peppers.

That was confusing me yesterday when I was shopping around. Thanks for the precision

I've been like you... When I was young invested a hell of alot of time/effort/money into these products. 3 figures a month for months on end taking up an hour a day just opening the bottles/packs and swallowing pills or drinking the powders.
Obsessively, constantly researching. Coming to the conclusion it is mostly business like everything else. There is no magic substance.
I think the belief has more of an effect than the actual supplements. Like a placebo.
All down to how lucky you are genetically.
The only things that you can feel for sure whether they or don't work for you are illicit and pharmaceutical drugs and alcohol. Which can have terrible side effects and destroy people.

I would suggest get in touch with your psyche. However you want to look at it... Spiritual, Socialable.
Make sure your health is as well as possible.
Focus on good Diet and Exercise and SLEEP.
I wish you all the best and hope you find what works for you like I didn't.

I certainly still do believe we need vitamins which is why alot of people suffer, but I doubt our bodies can utilize the synthetic ones very well, if at all.
Funnily enough health professionals who promote the idea there's nothing left in the soil have been killed or died... Strange eh?
We are an infection of the earth and it's built an immunity to us now. We're going to have problems trying to be because we're not supposed to be.
Here's a clip from Westworld that somes up what I believe

I've used turmeric to treat other inflammatory issues and to control blood sugar. It didn't do anything for my depression in the past but it's a useful add-on to any regimen I think.

Nice one. Some comedians educate you on general life shit so much better than any teaching could. If you know Rogan that clip is hilarious. I didn't know Marc maron was a decent comic to be honest... I knew he used to be a good podcast host but not listened to anything from him in, god 8 years+.
Best wishes

I would say sorry if it was a show that made any sense anyway mate. I've watched all episodes and it's all just one big concoction of events. I wonder what the reasons will be... Alternate universes, several parks, different timelines?... List is endless mate... You need not worry... I wouldn't anyway.
You have made me think twice if I were ever to post anything from a different show though lol.
Best wishes

Thanks for the response @toomuchtimetodie . The clip is from the Netflix special "End Times Fun," shot before the novel coronavirus emerged as a worldwide health threat, but inadvertently prescient. I find Maron's stand up hit or miss, but still enjoy his podcasts.

Best wishes to you as well.

All these ayurveda costing 200pounds a month. Its loot.
Edit: My 2 cents.
- Turmeric should only be taken in small quantities, like 1/4 of spoon in curry and the effects are over long term (years especially in later ages)
- Ashwagandha can be taken daily of thrice in week atleast again in small quantities, half a spoon and effects are over long term (years and later ages)
- Vit D is the 6th gland outside of body, however should be consulted under physicians guidance. 60000IU tablets once a month generally recommended for 6 months, tablets strictly under physicians advice unlimited from sunlight
- Testosterone boosting should be natural and one of the ingredients is cholesterol, the good one and which comes from stuff like Ghee of clarified butter
- Its better to take green tea than turmeric tea
- Have good amount of protein to see desired results
- Young below 40, strength training would immensely help and also increases serotonin levels. If not possible, then yoga and even if thats not possible, just simply meditate (would take a years time to really get into practice of breath control)
- Diet matters, period.
- Omega 3 and Multi Vitamin supply but controlled way, know what you are taking into your body

Problem is all these natural stuff are marketed as business. At my place, for 200 pounds I can buy a years supply of natural stuff. Its a growing business and I am even aware how the business works. You would be surprised how cheap they are bought and how expensive they are sold. The products are good, the marketing is trap and timelines are decisive and a forced perspective is created to keep on buying stuff regularly.

Natural products are supposed to boost your immunity but the real affects are over long term. Your immune system would become stronger and you would see that you are still fit comparatively at older age. These are more of prevention therapies. I've tried all and had an amazing schedule and seen good results. Locally for 1 to 2 $ I can find ashwagandha supplement enough for 3 months and it works for me reason being affordability. But in todays world, everything works for profit in balance sheet and to increase the share price.

Thanks for all the inputs. I don't have my hopes high but have nothing to lose (except money haha). I figured out since a long time that this well-being segment was hit by the profit mania. It shows in the choice of the content's quality, sourcing, doses, packaging, advertising. Spirulina, that supposed highly nutrient, multi-potent super-food is a good example. In the end, nothing special.
That said, to me supplements were worth more than a placebo in a rather short time, just nothing outstanding, but with the advantage of harm minimisation. Hit or miss.

I decided to explore outside of my comfort zone and source the SSRI Paroxetine for its approval against anxiety. Wish me luck. I usually don't tolerate well synthesized molecules. But needed a change. Not relying on a doc that will keep me under control. I'll be a listener to the experience

Should start a hygiene of high-intensity exercising but physical efforts are so not my cup of tea, even 3 times a week dense

About Testosterone, I found the most helpful to be Zinc, Magnesium and vitamin B6, but that had to be with a defficiency to compensate. Same with vit D, Omega 3 and pea protein (veggie). Before supplementing with extra, there's to be sure the base is not missing out.
15 minutes exposed to the sun per day, if enough body parts are uncovered, is worth 4000UI.
Bee wax (Propolis) was quite a discovery regarding resistance to winter flu and overall boosting of the immune system and calming lungs' inflammation. Just a bit hard on the stomach.

I'm tempted to try the Lion's Mane mushroom coupled to Niacin skin flush. It lools like an impressive routine to undergo regarding sensations. I wonder about the deeper effects. It sure looks like a cult propaghanda around the combo. The price tag to "rewire the brain" comes accordingly

I tried in the past 95% pills (reliable source) and felt nothing. But I'm pretty unresponsive to those things, some even irritate my stomach, so I'm not a reliable source..

Sorry to hear about that :notsure: Did you post about what's going on in either the suicide/recovery? I can't use search to check (site problem right now). Let us know how you're doing.

No, cause I usually keep things to myself, take it on me.
Really, it seems all about long term exhaustion. I just get weaker under the repeated life attacks. Quite common, I guess
but yeah, the level has been unusual and took me by surprise. Need to get past the "dead cat's bounce" stage now. I'll be okay, you take care !
