While overthinking everything i came to the conclusion that i need to learn acceptance. i need to accept myself so i did some quick googling and came across this page. i hope it helps someone :)

"We have an instinct to control our experiences, but this instinct does not always serve us." yes i so feel this, it makes sense that this is what i was doing.

Yeah. I can't accept that I'm not the person I was sculpting myself into years ago. It's too painful because I don't see any success for the person I am now.
success can be anything. a lot of people view success as the fancy house, good job, hot SO. but for me....i just want to be happy with my family and my little bakery. success is what you make it.

Faking acceptance don't mean you have to like it, just accept what it is .... Still plain not easy I guess

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is great! I totally recommend it. There are a bunch of books and workbooks on the subject you can find. It's the sort of thing you can practice on your own without needing to see a therapist.

While I was hospitalized for my last attempt I took a few "courses" on ACT! I found it very very helpful and very easy to understand and put into practice.

Does ACT include accepting that I'm going to CTB and commiting to it?
so not just accepting me the way I am and commiting to therapy?
considering that i put this in the recovery section im going to have to say it most likely wont help you accept that

acceptance therapy is yet another example of westies packaging something that buddhists and daoists in the east have been doing for millenia... even in the west Dr claire weekes pioneered it for anxiety back in the 60s...

Does it help? Yes? Then does it matter?

I can't accept that I just have to accept things. It's why recovery is dead in the water for me. I get angry at the thought! Every time

it does when you're having to pay and wait for a therapy you could be doing immediately and for free....
Ah but then you don't get the stamp if approval that guarantees an observable improvement in some people at least, scientifically established. Not that it's guaranteed to be any better at all

Pay for it? You can't read and do your own research? There's a lot of different worksheets and reading material online. Instead of hating a specific thing that is just a small portion of a whole (which I do understand the hate for MHS in general) why not do your own research and help yourself instead of relying on others to do something that can't even be done without your cooperation.

Thank you for sharing this. I've saved the link. It's something to sit down and I think with a notebook. I can see where in my case it can help on some areas. If I had known about ACT back in my earlier years it probably could have a bigger impact in changing things. When I see a thread "ACT" for example- I think it's a therapist thing so I don't read because I am unable to go to a therapist and have no experience with therapies. This is something one can do without a therapist.

can we link articles from anywhere if we find them?

As long as they're reliable/actually helpful yeah.

I've been doing therapy on my own for ~4years without a therapist. I tried 2 therapist but neither of them lasted long enough to know my name let alone help. There's a lot of different therapies you can do on your own. I started out by just googling therapies and going through the wiki page of options for what I can do at home/what would be best for me. I found a whole site of different worksheets for different things I can link when I get home.

Unless @Hyperborean wants to grab that for me off the discord? If you don't get this before I get home though that's cool.

Sorry i have no idea what you're talking about on any level but im sure we actually agree with each other.. clearly i do do my own research as i just named the pioneer of acceptance in the west Dr claire weekes whose work i've read in entirety and i also and well versed in buddhism, daoism and zen buddhist practice and history. The point remains that it's now been packaged into a therapy product to sell.

Mate learn to comprehend... i AGREE with your sentiment and am merely pointing out a reality that as seen here most people gravitate to the product it has been shaped into where as when you know the roots and sources you can bypass and take initiative as we advocate.

I see I'm probably not going to CBT so I might have to accept probably a life of suffering. These are good resources, thanks
