Falling Down

This is a pretty old thread idea I had, I wanted a place where I share my singing. I'd try to justify this by calling it an exposure exercise to public embarrassment, but it's purely for attention really. I love singing along to my favorite songs, and even though I don't have any vocal training or musical experience at all, I want someone to hear me and tell me good job, because I'm that desperate. Or honestly no, tell me I sound like shit if I do, tell me exactly what you think because I want to hear real feelings. Roasts are more than welcome
I have shared some before on my page and in chat, and I will start with putting those recordings here as well. I also added the original songs' backing tracks in so it's not as unlistenable (I hope that's ok to do. I don't think anyone really cares, still). Though this is all just for fun, I did try my absolute hardest, this is my 100%, whatever that's worth. It does feel good to let out some of the raw emotions and frustrations this way, and I know I'm not the only one. Also it's another excuse for me to share and gush over the music I love :) Well, here goes nothing.
Dan Warren - Falling Down
EDIT: Spotify link
Summer eternally
Haunting and burning me up inside
Like some kind of fever
Waiting for nightfall
Frying like an egg on the sidewalk
But I can't quite seem to
Stay on my feet
The kids on the street
Pursuing the question
Parents retreating
They wanna know why
I'm always falling down
After the sun is set
Bourbon and cigarette mingling
And conversations
I feel no resistance
But I'm still no assistance with your tingling
Little sensations
Bent like a nail
Too bent to impale
You're rolling your eyes at me
Like I've failed you now
You wanna know why
I'm always falling down
Why do we always have to
Sit around and analyse it?
Why can't we just relax and
Be?
It isn't easy to think about
Anything other than old regrets
Much as I like to
The second I'm over it
I know that you will come around knowing that
You're gonna try to
Say you can help me
Like you can tell me
How to be happy
Wholesome and healthy
You don't even know why
I'm always falling down
Oh yeah, expect this thread to be 80% Dan Warren I guess XD Can you tell I'm obsessed with his music? Also yes this is the the status the status title drop!!!
Love this song so much, and it's actually Summer now too, so there we go (though it's pretty chilly out rn, hope it lasts). I'm not entirely happy with how it came out, I think I could've done better with a few more takes, and yes I do many takes and then sit in Audacity for over an hour removing the much too jarring inhales and tweaking volume, as if anyone would care.
Also if you're wondering why use HIDEPOSTS, no reason really. I suppose for a tiny bit of extra privacy since non-members won't be able to see, but really I don't care.
The Beautiful People (120 Days) - Sedated Times
Out on the cold grey street
There's nothing left to do, oh
Get on a bus, get on a train, let's leave
I've spent too many days and nights
In this sedated town
Where breathing knocks you down
Nails you to the ground
Holds you down
And I'll go blind
I've lost my mind (x2)
And I'll go blind
In this sedated town
Out on the cold grey street
There's nothing left to do
Don't let it get to me too
Cause I'll go blind
I've lost my mind (x2)
In these sedated times
Get on a bus, get on a train, let's leave
I've seen too much let me go blind
From your sedative mind
Sedated times
I've seen too much let me go blind
I've lost my mind
In these sedated times
This was a challenging one, as screamy songs are significantly harder, and I even remember after 3 attempts my throat was absolutely demolished, and it isn't even that screamy of a song. I didn't do as poorly as I thought I would, at least I hope. Also I've been told it was good, but that could've been politeness. Don't be afraid to tell me if it sucks! Maybe even give genuine tips if you know a thing or two about singing. I don't think I'll ever want to do this as anything but a silly hobby, but I do want to see some improvement.
This is another track I reference plenty, and it has been my all-time favorite for a long time, maybe still is. 120 Days deserve more recognition, I say. I intend to attempt other songs of theirs as well, so... look forward to that?

Back when we were both young and pretty
Oh, you had so much to say
But things weren't perfect in the city
So now you moved away
And my, my, look how your star has faded
You spend the night at home
Practicing your drums for a gig that never comes
And casting dirty glances at the phone
You've still got mountains in your mind
You've never even tried to climb
You never seem to find the time
You know you used to shine so bright
Was it all reflected light?
Were you just a satellite?
Lord knows these things get so confusing
When you have flown so far
Back homе the almond trees are blooming
But it's autumn where you are
And my, my, now all the leaves are changing
Just like the color of your hair
Time flies, soon everything looks strange and
A chill is in the air
You've still got mountains in your mind
You've never even tried to climb
You never seem to find the time
You know you used to shine so bright
Was it all reflected light?
Were you just a satellite? (x2)
You know you used to shine so bright
Was that all reflected light?
Was nothing coming from inside?
Were you just a satellite?
You know you used to shine so bright
Was that all reflected light?
Was nothing coming from inside?
Were you just a satellite?
I actually don't hate this one. Not the song, the song is fantastic, I mean my rendition. Maybe it's because it's relatively easy on the throat, or maybe it's all the countless times I sang it back in college) My neighbors must've gotten very tired of hearing it (joking, I really hope no-one could hear me oh god I don't even want to think about it).
This song was also my first exposure to Dan, as I'm sure it was for many, as it was featured in Hypnospace Outlaw as part of Barnaby's Chair - a made up in-universe band, that I now know is greatly inspired by a band Dan was part of - Love Button. AND SPEAKING OF-
Love Button - Walk Me
EDIT: Spotify link
Would you hold me in the supermarket?
Would you scold me if I went on the carpet?
Would you talk me down from an unpleasant high?
Would you walk me in the park tonight?
I don't know where I lost my eyes
Are you there girl?
Have you noticed it's getting darker?
Out of nowhere I find the light
Is that you mom?
Would you walk me in the park tonight?
Would you help me button up my clothes?
Would you tell me when to blow my nose?
Would you teach me how to read and how to write?
Would you walk me in the park tonight?
I don't know where I lost my eyes
Are you there girl?
Have you noticed it's getting darker?
Out of nowhere I found the lights
Is that you mom?

A great segue, eh? Also I may have hit the limit of how many links can become embeds in a single post? I didn't even know that was a thing, maybe it's only on the preview. Huh. (EDIT: I turned 3 of them into pure links as a workaround. It seems the limit is 10 embeds, if anyone is curious)
I shared this one just recently in chat, and it's what inspired me to finally make this thread. Hope I won't regret it, haha...
This song hit somewhere deep for me, not to say I relate necessarily, not entirely, but I've been slipping more and more into helplesness and infantility in the recent years. It's a harrowing song, and it provokes disturbing thoughts of the potential future if I keep living as I am. But not to doom any further, this is Offtopic, after all, the rendition turned out alright? I think. Really insightful commentary here, truly worth your time.
Alright seriously I've wasted enough of it already, and this is also all I have for now. If you actually took your time to listen to all or even any of it, thank you!
I hope it wasn't too bad/cringe/insert negative descriptor here. And I hope I provided any amount of entertainment and distraction from unhappy thoughts, and not the other way around. Expect more singing coming soon, or not, I am not known for keeping promises. Have a *hopefully* better day!
