a poem: numbed

This is a poem I wrote a while back when I was at a really low point, thought it might resonate with some and this isn't something I've posted elsewhere or really shared, so decided to post here. Writing poetry is a very big coping strategy for me, regardless of whether it's "good" or "bad", all that really matters to me is writing about how I'm feeling in that moment.

numbed.

picture a girl out of her mind
numbed from her veins to
every little neuron in her brain
post-breakdown fog lasting months
and she's burnt out and
has bags under her eyes and
needs to eat better and get more sleep
but it's 2am and she's writing.

she's lonely -
self imposed ostracization
should really message the friends
she hasn't spoken to in a while
but she doesn't really like them anyway
and her palms sweat and heart beats
too fast to make any new
besides, they all just want to fuck her anyway, right?
because that's what happened last time
and why bother trying again?

she's trying - she swears,
but the wires tie her down to her bed
protruding from the corners of her eyes
a self administered lobotomy
an attempt to rid herself of
the bad that consumes her.
all attempts failures,
unfortunate, what a sad, sad girl.
