This petition really pisses me off. The only encouragement of suicide I've seen on this forum, is for people who've spent their entire lives suffering due to mental illness. Somehow giving those people the choice to die is inhumane compared to letting them live a life of misery? Most of the people who've ctb on here have wanted to for months and have tried to get help. There are certainly people who've had something happen to them that makes them want to die temporarily when they'd otherwise want to live, that's probably the main reason people do it. And every time that happens it's a tragedy but it's going to happen regardless of this forum and people on here try to help them from what i've seen.

Of course, anti-vaxx blogs that kill people and make people afraid of autistics, Qanon blogs that spout antisemitic and debunked conspiracy theories, and incel blogs where young men fantasize about killing women and Elliott Roger, an actual murderer, is touted as a hero get to stay open, but a blog that simply has a pro-choice view on suicide is the worst website on the internet and needs to be shut down. Let's go after anti-vaxxers and actual racists before we worry about pro-choice suicide people.

Yup, here's the "do-gooders" again thinking they know what's best for everyone else. I don't think it will be successful. I hope not. Can comments be added to the petition? Everyone here on SS should sign up on the petition sites and add their opinions to cancel out the others. Most of the people signing the petition haven't even looked at this site. They're just sheeple.

To be honest, change.org rarely actually makes changes from what I have seen, not to mention it's a for profit company. Anyone can really just sign up and create a petition. Being the d**k that I am, I used to make dumb irrelevant petitions.

For example, this petition that only says egg made by this wonderful stranger.
Egg petition.

Not sure if many people would actually take change.org seriously when signing a petition is a simple as a like button rather than a actual signature. And you can also fake your information, there's that also.

It wouldn't change much. Most people have already made up their minds that we're just a death cult when they hear the name and see it called a "pro-suicide" site.

Change.org doesn't do a damn thing other than to make people believe they're making a positive change. A petition won't bring the site down.

This is a safe haven and feels like home for many of us. I'd be heartbroken if our private haven got stolen from us. People need to mind their own fucking business instead of treating us like some deep web cult. This website has helped us take solace in our pain, that we're not alone. Everyone here is so kind and supportive and I really hope we can continue to be together here with no outsiders trying to shit on us.

No, I don't think Karen has that kind of power. Too bad they've misunderstood the purpose of this place and failed to realize that nobody gives a shit about petitions.

I did get a little anxious after a few hours had passed but checked the karens social media as I'm sure they'd be the first to claim victory and dance on our graves. Nothing was mentioned so I worried less. I got used to occasional bouts of the forum being offline but once a few hours pass it does get a little concerning. Even if your sensible side says it's probably just an admin thing.

I do not understand why the link is even posted. Why post pro life content on this website, we are against it and it does not deserve any attention. Pro lifers should be ignored, they are delusional. It is our life and our decision, and other people should have no say in it. The right to die should always be respected.

Nobody should have to resort to risky methods to end their pain, we all deserve the option of a peaceful exit. Even the pro lifers could turn suicidal, life is very unpredictable after all, things could get much worse for any one. Some people simply do not want to suffer for decades, life is so meaningless after all, and we will all die eventually so why try to force people to live.

I think efforts to take the site down should be documented here, though maybe not a change petition unlikely to go anywhere. Still, if efforts to take down the site seriously ramp up, then discussing it here it will allow the user base to figure out what their plan is in the worst case scenario where this site actually is shut down for good or rendered inaccessible to a large number of people. I'm sure if they can the admins would inform us to brace for it though and have their own backup plan in place but I still think it's important for people here to see for themselves which way the wind is blowing.

Yeah.

In Finland there's an official government-made Internet page where any citizen can suggest any law and if the petition/suggestion gets enough signatures it goes to the goverment and they vote on it.

But it's really stupid, because Finland has like 5,5 million citizens, but they require 50 000 signatures in 6 months. And the chances that at least 1% of Finnish people go to that site to sign it is very low. First, people under 18 aren't allowed to sign, so it's more like only 4 million people can sign it. But old people don't have internet access or don't know how to use or browse the Internet so it's more like only 3,5 million people. And because most of the people who suggest new laws don't advertise at all or aren't allowed to advertise because fuck Finnish laws, even the most popular suggestions often only get max 1000.

And even if every person who visits that site would sign a suggestion, that suggestion would only get like 20 000 signatures. Because the only way anyone will ever sign that is if they randomly get the idea to google that site. Iirc about 1/3 of Finns suffer from loneliness and have no friends, and a lot of Finns suck at small talk or any talk, so the chances that a Finn would hear about that site and go to sign petitions is really low. Most Finns don't even know that site exists.

Iirc there's only been two cases where a petition/suggestion went to the government. One was the same-sex marriage thing which they would have probably allowed any way because it was fashionable for virtue signaling European countries to allow it some years ago. (Finland loves doing what Sweden does, if Sweden made coffee illegal, there's a 80% chance Finland would too.) And even in that case it required lots of waiting, and voting, and waiting, and after they agreed to make that law they still waited like two years before it went on.

The another, I don't remember what kind of suggestion it was, but they just let it sit there forever, and then quietly said no to it.

I fucking hate that system, you could have 99% of 5,5 million Finns sign a petition/suggestion and the goverment could still vote no, even if every fucking non-politician Finn agreed to that law.

So yeah, if an official government-made petition site with an official government-authored signing system doesn't achieve anything, I doubt a single changeorg thing would change things too.

I've seen several cases where a game company is being an idiot and the game series's fans gather tens of thousands of signatures on changeorg and the game company probably doesn't even know that petition exists.
