Imagine going to the emergency room for reasons completely unrelated to mental health, then you get visited by a psychiatrist because an algorithm told them that you may be in a high risk suicide group. All without your consent, as is almost always the case when they deem you a danger to yourself or likely to make decisions about your own life.

Now imagine the same but in more authoritarian countries, or in the authoritarian future that is inevitable for most countries, where this could mean wellness checks, forced prescriptions of "medicine" or even lower social credit scores.

The implications of this kind of technologies are extremely grim.

Another reason why it's important to roar with laughter and stomp on their graves when technology executives or upper management / engineers die

Laughs in Big Brother watching you.

In our Orwellian nanny-state, government watchdogs prowl the Internet and social media. You'll never know when a slip of the tongue gets the authorities to come knocking on your door. The threat presented by technology-aided 'suicide prevention' is indeed real. Your rights mean nothing to those who prefer to err on the side of caution.

Seasteading was such a great hoax. I wonder if there were any people who actually fell for it besides the ideological promoters like thiel.
"Yeh , okay guys, this mode of economic arrangement is gonna outcompete everyone. We're going to spend a fortune keeping these cities afloat and moving them, importing fuel, and paying specialist doctors to live in an undesirable locale. And we will still be viable because libertarian child pedophiles are allowed on our islands !"

was there anyone gullible enough to invest in seasteads as a small time investor ?
what do you consider upper level
Anyone involved in creating mass surveillance designed to target and harass civilians whether in the US or abroad. Many companies like Amazon work with us / Chinese intel agencies to murder innocents.

It's going to start off small and slow just like all types of technology, but I'm confident that we'll eventually perfect the technology. They are working on actually making the seasteads right now.

You're missing something real big about seasteading:

its a technology seeking a problem which doesn't exist. There are hundreds of jurisdictions in the world in which to do business many of which are tolerant of or complicit in allowing activities prohibited by the powerful countries.

No serious commercial entity is going to do seasteading for its operations. The role of that kind of tech is more or less for resource extraction only and has been around for decades in offshore oil. it's too expensive for any other purpose like manufacturing not to mention creating cities. The trend in global birth rates is down with the UN projecting a likely population peak by century end - are global investment firms and retail investors really about to go on a sea steading building spree when land will be getting less and less scarce before long ?

There is no business case for it. It's a fantasy in thiels mind - he wants to build homosexual pedophile trumpian islands. A seastead may one day exist but it will be subsidized by thiel or another global oligarch as a child rape den

Hum Peter Thiel backed out of the whole seasteading thing last I remember. Honestly if I had the money I would make my own seastead.

Seasteading is already here just not in the way some techno narcissists imagine it. You really just need a boat and a good tax domicile.

yes it's viable at the small scale of an individual or family. I knew a guy who did it , I think he got cheap docking rights and lived in a city with high Real estate price on the cheap

Let me ask you this. If we got a HUGE clean energy breakthrough where we could make very cheap energy in a small space and cleanly, do you think that this would be a boon for seasteading?

The real issue about seasteading is that you need to be very wealthy to be part of it, this isn't exactly going to sustain, protect and build itself, you will need a lot of stuff from the mainland anyway, so this concept is mostly a permanent cruise ship for the rich.

if you are not very well off, then you are going to stay in the land with the rest of us.

From what I heard in a recent seasteading video the guy building these seasteads is not charging an arm and a leg. They are not cheap either, but price should go down in time. Also they could fix a lot of the problems associated with seasteading building them off shore near the equator.

But I'm talking about maintaining it and then protecting it, then there's the fact that you'll need a lot more than what the sea will give you, and all of this needs to be shipped to you from somewhere.

This isn't exactly cheap and I've seen far too many concepts like this that end up being a scam or completely unfeasible in reality.

Why can't we just be left alone. Death is as sacred as life. Not everyone is meant to live and instead of making death easier they make life harder.

Stay off social media and you won't be part of the AI algorithm. Also most of the AI stuff is in it's infancy stages and can be abused, it would take a madlad to implement this in the real world any time soon. Give it another 30-50 years for it to become mainstream.

I grew up on David Icke and Alex Jones (many years before AJ became a purely right wing zealot.) The direction society is heading with all these different dystopian technologies gives me peace of mind that I am doing the right thing by CTBing. I don't want to live in this world even if I didn't have my mental scars. I don't even like the smartphone culture, as things get more orwellian it will be just awful.

But this is not a social media algorithm, it's a machine learning from health records and the immediate data that they get from things like pulse, etc. And they tested it in a real clinic in a span of 11 months.

I'm not saying that AI is already perfect, or that it will be a threat to our freedoms immediately. however, it's important to remember that it is steadily evolving and the next generation will have to deal with these intrusive and invasive practices real soon. We are lucky in a way.
