Oh please, Asking about your thoughts on suicide after a failed attempt is like being held at gun point. I had to lie about it just to get away from being confined longer. There might be a few stragglers here and there but 90% is outrageous.

I was definitely not one of those 90%. Came to in ICU crying hysterically that I was still alive.

I'm 10% who hates failing at it and thinks how much better would've been if I was dead back then.

I remember freaking TF out after I awoke from anesthesia (when I had to get surgery for my failed attempt) because I was furious that I was still alive.

The only thing I regret is not dying. I'm not glad I survived and I'm certainly not going to stop looking for ways out of this mess lol.

Not entirely surprised that the people on SS fall into the category of those that wish they had been successful in their attempt.

That's most likely where the 90% comes from. There's no way to tell the difference between someone who is legitimately glad to have survived and those who say they are, just to get out of confinement. The remaining 10% are probably the ones that said they still want to die.

Also, I imagine that some of those who actually were glad to have survived at first, could have changed their minds about that weeks or even months down the road, possibly even attempting again. Even if that 90% was accurate for people within the first few days of surviving, that percentage might drop as these same people are sent back into the world, feeling eager to recover, only to have life or other people steal their renewed hope from them, leaving them more broken than before. In a few months or even years, that percentage could be reduced significantly, so it wouldn't be accurate anymore anyway.

Only one thing is certain. 100% of people who are successful at committing suicide do not regret the decision:)

Well, I don't know if we can be certain about that or not. I'm not really sure what actually happens after people die, but it's possible that some people will have regrets about it. It would be nice if death resulted in complete nonexistence, making it impossible for anyone to regret anything in the first place, but there's no way to be sure about that without actually succeeding at it.

As someone who believes in some form of existence post-death, I read this book in hopes to see what evidence from mediumship says about people who have succeeded in their attempts say about suicide post-death:

Extremely depressing read, almost universal regret. I'm not sure how much I buy it as mediumship is flaky at best. But as someone who thinks that it is indeed possible for legitimate communication to happen it wasn't what I wanted to hear. Nevertheless I'm forging on with my plans as I really have no other choice.

A choice between saying you want to live and being free vs saying you want to die and being committed to a mental hospital... Yeah I'd lie through my teeth too

I can totally believe this stat if we're talking about in the near future after the attempt. Because you've got to remember that most suicidal people don't hear about SS, and most don't use relatively peaceful methods like SN/CO/Partial etc. If you take an overdose on over the counter pills and end up profusely vomiting and in severe pain then your survival instinct is very likely to kick in and it becomes quite a traumatic experience. If your problems don't go away then of course that happiness you're alive is likely to wear off with time. But as someone who took a paracetamol overdose and had a traumatic and painful experience, that's how I felt for a short while, and I'm sure other painful methods would lead to many feeling the same way.

I do not believe in fairytales. After you die, it ends for good.

I kind of know how you feel. I've been in 2 car accidents, both at highway speeds and both times I rolled the car multiple times. Aside from jacking my already wrecked back I walked away unscathed. It's like what the fuck do I have to do to end things.

Hope you eventually find your peace.
"Its like what the fuck do I have to do to end things" boy do I understand that, I've had 3 weirdly failed attempts in my life, the last time I had driven to a remote location and was sitting in my car dying when a cop rolled up to take a piss...wtf

Man, sounds like you have my kind of luck. Sorry to hear that and hope you have better luck next time.

I'm going to a hotel room this time so there will be no chance I'll get discovered until it's way too late. I'll just tell them I don't want to be disturbed as an extra precaution.

Highly doubt it. There are many cases of people trying suicide again after failed attempts.

When I failed to CTB last August, I felt kinda glad to be alive because everyone was really worrying about me and very sad. I thought something like "hey, people do actually care about me! Cool!" but then, some weeks later, my suicidal thoughts and hatred towards life came back.

Now, I don't feel glad to be alive at all and I don't care about anybody (only my dad, dog and my friends on SS of course lol)
People initially act like they care about you but as time goes on they forget about the immediate danger and they despise you for it because society despises the weak and you are the ultimate weakest when you try to kill yourself.

Shit, I'm still a minority. I haven't attempted in almost 2 yrs. And I'm kinda just dragging through the bullshit. Crazy side effect: nothing scare me anymore but ghost and my own personal demons. And people not liking me.

But how many of those 90% who failed were actually saved by modern medicine and if left without medical help would have actually died??? So maybe attempting suicide is more effective and lethal it's just that pple get saved. What would the actual figure be without medical assistance???
Still, very discouraging that 90% of attempts fail.
