like looking at videos or pictures or just hearing about it/reading about it intrigues me
and makes me excited.

does that sound weird?

Well, I just take it as it is. There is nothing too fascinating for me, I just want everything to end. In calm and silent state of mind.

I do the same thing. I always heavily research any celebrity suicides I hear about, read academic articles in the field of suicidology, watch all the documentaries I can about the subject. It's oddly invigorating.

I don't find it weird. Death, in general, is a natural curiosity to most, I believe. It personally calms my anxiety when reading about it in depth.
