I am looking for the details of Christine Chubbuck's story and method, especially shot placement and ammo.

I just can't hear anymore that a .38 special isn't enough.

I am in a dire situation that is getting so much worse.

I can't pull off the engineering of nitrogen, I can't source SN.

I am weak, have never held a gun. I wouldn't be able to go to a range and practice to work out the flinch. I have very weak, unsteady hands. I am visually impaired, and would raise suspicion.

I know my incredible disadvantages. I know what happens if I don't die.

But obviously a .38 can kill. Does anyone know the details of her death? Did she shoot herself in the side of the head? Was she an experienced shooter? She clearly was past the SI in her illness and despair.

I have incredible determination and resolve. My illness and despair overrode my SI this winter but I was detected. I can't last until winter. I will be in such worse shape by then.

So please tell me people overthink this too much on here.

Christine took out a .38 and shot herself. And died. I know she got lucky.

But if I shot myself with a .38 I would probably die, right?

practicing dry firing without bullets inside the gun, is the best way to get rid of the flinch. this can be done anywhere . don't have to go to the range

Also imo visualization. in my mind seeing me doing the exact action perfectly successfully over and over every day better if in a row.

Some calibers of ammunition are much more destructive than others. .38 is towards the "lesser" end of the range (pun not intended but šŸ¤·šŸ»). That makes shot placement much more important than it would be with ammo at the other end of the spectrum (rifle ammunition).

I am terribly sorry you are in so much pain. Having chronic issues that are eventually going to make me a constant burden to my son, simply because I will no longer be able to do things for myself -- it has actually already started happening -- is one of the reasons I wound up here, so I understand completely.

I would love to be able to tell you that yes, people are just overthinking it a bit. Thing is, they aren't overthinking it. In my opinion you are going to have to take some time and strengthen your hands/arms/shoulders-upper body enough to be able to hold your gun steady, without shaking so you maximize your chances of actually firing a lethal shot.

If I were you I would spend some time doing some research on strengthening myself as much as I could (I know. I understand. But even a little PT over time can produce some pretty significant results.) and learning about anatomy and what a fatal shot entails.

Again, I am so horribly sorry you feel the way you do about your future in this world. While I hate for anyone to lose their life, I will defend your right to do so til the day I finally die. Best of luck to you and godspeed.

Could take you hours of agony to die with only a near miss. It's the wrong gun.

Have you considered not shooting yourself in the head? Or at all

All of the info you need is in the firearms megathread. A 38 special will work, but you need to use hollow point "+P" ammunition and you need to make sure that you hit the brain stem. Read through the firearms megathread before trying anything.

As for Christine, we know that she used a 38 Special and that she aimed at the side of her head. She had interviewed the police chief (or some local authority) prior to her attempt and "slipped in" a question about how to CTB, but we don't know what kind of ammo she used. Also, that happened in the early 1970's and she might have survived as a "vegetable" (I'm speculating) given the advancements in medical technology since then.
