So I had a pretty intense day today. I received several rejection letters from interviews I did last week.

I'm always surprised at how blunt recruiters can be. They tell you straight up what's wrong with you and explain you why they think you're a worthless piece of shit, making sure to use the most hurtful words.

Anyway I'm giving up job hunting for a while. I'm usually indifferent to this type of stuff but rn I'm somewhat feeling shattered.

I gave up hunting for a better paying job when a VP of a major tech company told me over the phone how much of a worthless POS I am compared to other people and that I should stop wasting my time applying because I just don't have what it takes compared to overseas talent. So I feel you on that one and honestly, those recruiters and higher-ups that treat others like shit, who the hell wants to work for them? I hope they're company goes down in flames and they spend their time begging for change on a street corner still dressed in the tattered remnants of their business suits.

except this won't happen because, and I said it before, life favors cruelty and punish genuine selflessness.

how do you feel today about giving up? any regret?

Damn, if I were you, pretty sure I'd be rocking back and forth, SN in hand. I don't handle that kind of stuff well at all. I already criticise myself internally enough, to hear it from other people, even if it might be accurate, wrecks me for a while.

That was about 3 months ago. I don't regret the interviews, though I wish I had prepared more or learned how to talk better. Oh well.

can't survive in today's job market without emotional endurance.. the concept of empathy has gone completely extinct.

you can still do that. I hope you didn't give up definitively because of that asshole :(

Job hunting sucks at the best of time. It's difficult to find something and before you do, it's nothing but demoralising. I feel your pain man. I'm in the process right now as well.

I given up because other things in my life have taken precedence. Don't have the energy to keep it going at the moment.

I don't know if this will help or not, but I think we're rapidly dehumanising everything. In my day you applied for a job, got to sit down with people and have a proper interview.

Anyway, what I got told the other day is bigger companies in particular post jobs with words in the ads like "compassionate" or "diligent" or "trustworthy" etc, etc, etc, you can imagine the variations depending on the job.

Then what they do is take all of the CVs, digitise them, run them through an algorithm, and have it look for those keywords - if they aren't in your CV it kicks you out. If you have something like an image (of yourself for example) that it can't read - it kicks you out. They aren't looked at or considered by humans.

So basically you need to rejig your CV and cover letter for every job you apply for to contain the right phrases and words to match the ad to have even a shot at an interview.

So you could be Albert Einstein looking for a job at a lab and put in your entire theory of relativity before it was even known on your CV, and because you didn't contain the word "conscientious" you'd be kicked out and never even be considered.

IMHO this is how technology is killing humanity.

I still find this hard to believe. Like how stupid and retarded is that? So basically there's no more room for creativity and individuality? I need to get my hands on some SN asap.

Companies are not interested in quality, but only in profit.
Thoroughly evaluating every applicant with regards to creativity, talent, skill, character etc. will determine the best possible employee at a high expenditure. Evaluating applicants according to the above method may not identify the best candidate, but will keep the costs down.
As LansJ70 elucidated: You could be the most brilliant mind in your field, but if you don't have any official degrees or are unable to present yourself well, no company will invest time to find out how skilled you really are; it is easier by far to hire someone with appropriate credentials.
This also explains the popularity of nepotism: Hiring someone who has been recommended to you may not get you the best employee, but it saves you a lengthy hiring process.

One of my dumbest university classmates somehow got himself a position as a "stategic materiel procurer" at the military. I won't be surprised if we get into a war but all the guns are made of styrofoam

University is all about your ability to socialise. I will quote what KuriGohan&Kamehameha wrote elsewhere on this website:

"Connections are capital. Without a wide network of people in your sphere, it is near impossible to get your foot in the door when it comes to the majority of jobs. Hell, this principle applies even when completing qualifications, as you've mentioned. Unless you can get your normie classmates to add you to their group chats, it's really hard to get any pragmatic sort of help in university.
[...]
People will say higher education is all about independent learning, when that couldn't be more of a farce. Those who can socialise and network will do the best in uni. It's like you say, they're gonna chat amongst themselves and figure out the answers, while the guy all on his own is left for the wolves.

Every part of your livelihood is dependent on how well you can play the socialisation game."

and I'll go as far as saying that even the so called technical fields such as math or sciences are all about soft skills and connections.

since what matters is the quality of the data you have.
