This was a question that really bothered me a few years ago, primarily because I was in a very religious area so it was always at the forefront of my mind. But at some point I just stopped caring. Like WadeingThru said, knowing probably won't change much (unless it fundamentally changes our understanding of everything). Always asking about it didn't help me any, though.
That being said, I do think it's fun to talk about. I think no matter the theory, you can always ask "Well, what was before that?" Or, "How did that get there, then?" I honestly think the best response to those answers is some kind of omnipotent being that exists in some dimension outside of time, whether it be God or Dr. Manhattan, because it's hard to argue with something beyond our comprehension.
My own beliefs don't have a definitive origin of the universe, either. The Big Bang is where things tend to start for me, but I'm not very knowledgable on it and I don't know how much it answers for how empty space existed in the first place. What matters most to me (and probably to a lot of others on this forum) is that there is no reason for why we're here. We just are. And for a good amount of us, it sucks.
I think another fun question to ask would be this: How would our lives change if we DID know the origin of the universe?
Religions being proven right or wrong would be the big ones, but I'm curious if there's anything else we could take away.
