Apparently I'm beyond help because this is the second time it's happened in two months. They said my medical needs, background and situation were just too complex and there's nothing they could do for me. This is in addition to being dumped by another shrink back in 2017 and also 2 psychologists and one therapist. It's not like I'm an asshole or difficult person. Not everyone can be helped and unfortunately I'm one of them. I've tried, believe me. I don't want to die but my situation is unbearable and there's no way out.

yeah, i was too young to get told why i was dumped or even that i was dumped by many therapists/counselors. I have a very harrd time opening up, so its prob that i didnt spill my deepest darkest secrets right after meeting them. I had one that told me to my face "I wanna know what makes you tick" like, as a clock? which just made me not like her ( i was around 10-12ish)

Sorry you have to go through this! This is such an awful situation. Don't you have the slightest idea what could cause your problems if the doc/therapist is unable to find them? That is imo the last chance. Meds will not help here unless you know what's causing your problems.

It must be so dreadful feeling trapped in an unbearable situation, to me it's truly such a horrible existence where people suffer all through no fault of their own.

Wow an honest shrink. All of them should follow suit and disband the industry. Or actually do something useful and study the physics of consciousness.

Honestly, each time a therapist did that to me, it wasn't because they couldn't help, it was because they didn't want to help. Look, they can have 30-minutes chats with happy patients every day, and earn just as much money, why would they care about complex cases.

Don't get me wrong, sometimes therapists can have legitimate reasons for redirecting patients to a new one. But "you need higher level of care", "your situation is too complex", "I can't do anything for you" are 100% false motives. They should be revoked or get another job TBH.

If you persist, you may be able to find better therapists eventually. That's a long process, but it worked for me.

We already know what the problem is. I have a very rare neurological movement and sleep disorder that's closely related to parkinson's but much less understood. I'm being treated by one of the top specialists in the world but there's only so much they can do. Most psychiatric drugs make the condition worse. It's incurable and very progressive. In the profit driven system I find myself in, most doctors don't want to deal with it. I'm up shit creek and tired of suffering and dealing with bullshit which is why once my blind diabetic dog goes I'm going to follow suit. Not every problem has a solution.

That's great, but I'm dealing with a terrible neurological disease that no amount of therapy can fix. It can help me cope possibly but won't change the fact that I'm sick with a disease that has no cure and is absolute torment to live with.

It just makes me so sad that they don't even want to try. Did they at least refer you to other places you could try? I don't know. My line of work is very different. Still- I REALLY try to help people. If I can't do it, I try to refer them to someone who might be able to help. If I can do it but not to the best of my ability because of time constraints (usually because they've left it till the last minute,) I tell them their options.

Like- even if they were honest. Even if they said- your case is a difficult one- we may not be able to make things better for you. We need to tell you that before we take your money. That's being honest. It's like they're so scared to fail though- and that you might hold them liable. Just seems weird. Like- doctors dealing with physical illnesses will sometimes recommend against say- a major operation but- sometimes- if the patient insists- they'll still do it. I assume they sign disclaimers and what not. Just doesn't seem to work the same in mental illness. When a case is too challenging or- people confess to being suicidal- I've just seen it so many times here- they just get abandoned! Makes me furious!! I'm so sorry.

FFS. Why can't they just listen to you moan on all day saying how much you hate your life!? Does everything require a happy ending to validate their job. I don't know how much you'd value just moaning about the situation but I imagine it is better than nothing. I phoned a UK organisation today just to moan and cry and say I hate living. It helped for an hour or so.

I have a beyond hideous neurological condition that gets no help whatsoever. My sensory nerves are being destroyed. It is not a life. You have my sympathy

Exactly! "Helping" doesn't mean "find the magical drug that fixes everything". By dismissing patients under the false motive that we need a "higher level of care", therapists are just ensuring we don't receive any help at all from them. Truth is *they* don't want to help us because they want patients that they think they can help more with less efforts.

And of course, I'm very sorry to read about both your stories of neurological issues. It sounds horrible, I can't imagine.

As a fellow rare disease patient (mine is neuromuscular) and someone with chronic SI and a complex mental health situation, I hear you. It is deeply messed up these providers are essentially abandoning you.

You're right nothing will change the outcome of your disease. But you are deserving of kindness, support and decency in the meantime and it's awful these providers can't see that. Your situation, like mine, sounds untenable. I only hope you can find some kind of support going forward until you're ready to ctb.
