The article references the dangers of at least 10 people buying a chemical from Amazon that causes suicide.

Here are the difficult numbers:

In the USA where the article references these 10 deaths by suicide we have a total of 47k. Rough math gives these deaths by a non common household chemicals of sodium nitrite (referenced in the Yahoo article and the primary preservative in bacon, hot dogs, pepperoni, beef jerky and hundreds of charcuterie meats for hundreds of year, of 10/47000 whcih is 0.021 percent.

The astounding effort of having lawmakers ban amazon from selling a chemical that can be used for suicide while firearms (what my daughter used) is absolutely amazing when that accounts for 50 percent which is 2300 times the number of suicides than what the article references is the problem that Amazon has selling the meat curative.

Even the poisons as a method of suicide in the USA have 10 deaths of of 6125 or 0.163 percent.

. In contrast to the other suicide methods, poisoning suicide rates during 2000–2018 initially increased and then declined, from 2.3 in 2010 to 1.9 in 2018 among males and from 2.0 in 2015 to 1.7 in 2018 among females.

While the greatest increase in rates was among suffocation by makes which more than doubled in male and female populations.








Meanwhile as we work tirelessly emailing and contacting representatives throughout the USA to stop Amazon from selling chemicals that can be used to cause suicides and is liked to 10 deaths, the national institute of mental health provides a statistical view of the increasing numbers of individuals contemplating suicide :



12 million thoughts of suicide and at the same time we are not pushing for an overhaul.of the mental health system, not discussing legislation to restrict firearms to patients with severe depression and not even discussing whether or not the suicide hotline is working for patients with suicidal ideation.

I'm not glad that @fixthe26 has decided to put their effort into stopping amazing from selling a meat curative and I wish they would address the big problems with suicide.

I feel that if people want to help they will approach this from a big picture perspective and fight for the 80:20 part of the problems. Suicide is increasing year over year and this is a fact. The greatest increases are in suicide by firearms and suicide by strangulation. There is not data yet on the impact of suicide forums and the impact of these forums (reddit, sanctioned suicide and others) and their contribution to the thousands of suicides occurring annually. It is absolutely true that people have been part of this forum and committed suicide. It is also true that people have watched 13 reasons why, boogie nights, heathers, dead poets society and many other complex films with depictions of suicide and difficult decisions.

But no one ever takes on those major issues with legislators. No one will approach a legislator with a push to limit guns or restrict the visual medium of movies as art with suicide in them. What people like @fixthe26 do is to narrow the focus down to a simplistic nihilism of "they're teaching children to kill themselves and the site is run by pedophiles". The hard work to step in is to make the mental health world of suicidal ideation and access to mental health care and the reasons for this growing despair aware to the world and the legislators

This will not be as simple as "ban forums that talk about suicide and triggers and are not focused on sending people to help lines"

If help lines were working well the numbers would not be increasing this fast
