Emissary of the right to die.

Note: I am an atheist and don't believe in God(s), but I just had an interesting thought and am curious to hear others' thoughts on this.

So the scenario is: If you were God (assuming you were omniscient (all knowing), omnipotent (all powerful), and omnipresent (can be anywhere/everywhere at any given time), what would you do if you were in the position to be able to affect things (positively or negatively), especially the affairs of humans (or any other sentient species)?

Personally, if I were God, and given the facts presented in this thread, I would only intervene when necessary to ensure the balance of humanity and/or other species. I would do this because as a pro-choicer, the stance of pro-choice would be balance and allowing 'true' freedom for one to choose. Therefore, if that balance has been thrown off by any faction, then as God, I would seek to restore the balance. For instance, if pro-lifers dominate humanity (like they do in our reality and timeline), oppressing those who are pro-choice, then I would intervene to restore the balance. Similarly, if there are too many pro-mortalists and they are pushing too much in the direction of forcing people (who want to live) to die, then I too, would intervene to ensure balance.

How much intervention and in what manner would I intervene, it would depend on the degree of imbalance, though for simplicity purposes, I would intervene in indirect ways primarily.

Case A:
So in the case of pro-lifers overwhelming dominate humankind, I would pull strings indirectly to ensure the survival of pro-choicers and maybe even cause some pro-life movements to fail. Specifically in policy making, I would pull strings such as ensuring that pro-lifers' plans have slight deviations that cause them to fail (e.g. curse them with faulty logic so their arguments make them foolishly, induce impaired judgment at critical times, thus allowing pro-choicers the opening they need to secure victory, etc.)

Case B:
In the case of pro-mortalists pressuring and/or directly causing the deaths of people who otherwise wish to thrive or live, I too, would create circumstances that allows the people who wish to live to survive and/or ensure they don't completely go extinct. I would do so by granting resiliency to pro-lifers, and/or interfere with the hardcore pro-mortalists who try to exterminate pro-lifers.
(e.g. giving knowledge of safe places for pro-lifers to go to so they don't get captured and killed, create situations that frustrate or impede that of pro-mortalists, allowing pro-lifers to have a fighting chance to exist.)

Of course, given that I have the power of omnipotency, I could do more, but again, for simplicity purposes, I would oftenly go for indirect intervention as to not overly meddle in humanity's affairs. Then after balance is restored, I would again, become dormant in my own universe/realm.

What would you do?

If I could, I would make it easier for people to leave this world, like if someone wished to pass away in their sleep I would grant them their wish. As a god, I would want to reduce unnecessary suffering and give those who wish for freedom from this existence what they are looking for.

I would watch over every child...I would make them feel loved and protected and I would make sure that no harm comes to them. And if they feel lonely and want to leave the earth to join me I would fulfill their wish and make a place where they can stay and be children forever. I would never ever abondon them.

i would help everyone and gets us out of this god awful mess by engineering a machine to take care of people so they don't have to go out to work just to survive i would have millions of machines doing all the heavy lifting and shitty jobs nobody really wants, engineer a better body and mind for us all to live in, cure all diseases and illness, get rid of this having to eat to survive so no harm is caused to anyone, basically would restart the whole universe with a creator at its hands helping out everything and everyone by creating an abundance of everything ,i would get rid of all rapist murders and pedos, let children decided their education, make it so everyone can live without having to work, free the world from all borders and completely ridiculous laws, build a paradise to live in where none have to die unless they choose too.

I would make the world a much better place to live in. Some people do want to live, but don't feel like it's possible because of the way society is structured. I would either make all societies everywhere less overbearing or make a new one with And if someone still wishes to catch the bus, I'll grant them that wish on a night when they most desire it. And when someone passes away, they would get to pick where they want to go after life. Whether that be hell, heaven, reincarnation, insentince, or et cetera.

I think I would put more nature everywhere too. And eliminate the people who trash the planet as well.

I would just go around and give people
Powers, not "intervine" and rule over, but just like, be "hey, your nose looks a little fat, your hand now has a hole in it thats a pocket dimension, ot can fit infinite items, but you have to be naked and they have to be small enough to fit in your mouth, enjoy" or just give people who sneeze loudly the ability that when they sneeze, someone they despise contracts the black plauge or somthing(a version that cant spread).

You know, just have fun, cause chaos, maybe make pokemon real.
Again, im not ruling over or directing them, even homophobes and transphobes I wont bother dealing with(coming from a lgbtq non cis person), they just wont get powers when Igive em out, and if they do it will have to be activating by making out with a bipoc trans lgbtq person who consents or some shit just to piss em off.

To clqrify(edit): only leaving the shitty people alive just because I gave the nice people powers, and the shitty people woll be sad without powers/have to go against there beleifs to activate it.
I dont beleive in seeking them out to kill then as they may change, so I just make em useless till they change, or make em suffer to be usefull.

agreed, it's the imbalance we've created that's an issue. things that are unnatural, our reproductive practices, our management (or rather lack thereof) technology. There was some old js game you could play a god and throw lightning bolts at cows n ppl stuff, was great. I'd find it hard not to just simplify things and press the big red button, but, I suppose as you say being a god would require putting a little more thought and morality into what we choose to do with our omnipotence. Therefore I guess limiting reproductive activity in some cringey but necessary eugenically similar manner would be helpful. And yes, overall reducing suffering, promoting sustainability, quality of life, but doing so all while maintaining as much free will as possible would be the ideal goal. Just how to get there is the question. I guess that's why I'm not (and I don't believe anyone else is) a god.
It always confuses me why we have such restrictions on driving, arguments on abortion, freedom etc, yet any idiot can bring life into this world and we like to pontificate how much we 'care abt the children' yet we don't, or the increasingly horrific crimes, neglect, and ignorance of equipping young lives to thrive as much as possible wouldn't be such a festering cancer upon our society.
I've goaded myself into continuing to exist, or defined my own existence for many years )even when not actively wanting to ctb) by acting in service of other lives. Animal rescue, senior care, addiction recovery support. All these horrible things I have seen, and all the energy I could muster up I would throw at the problem at hand in part for the reassurance that I wasn't a terrible person, to give myself that role we're all supposed to have in society but in a meaningful way. I think what I've really done is just reassure myself that I am largely incapable of making significant changes for the betterment of others, and that evil usually wins. That I am typically rewarded with a stern verbal lashing and being scapegoated, no matter how perfectly I conducted myself nor how well I documented the entire process at hand.
Being in the substance abuse recovery community typically starts with 12step fellowships, which as much as they promise you they're not a religious organization and you do not need to believe in any certain form of god, that is completely false and those fellowships are centered in evangelical christianity. Finding myself in one of those communities at a very young age, I felt the need to fit myself into a god shaped box so my recovery would qualify to my southern baptist dominated groups. I think I was maybe 8 when I realized church doesn't like questions and it's best just to go for the cookies and keep my mouth shut, so trying christianity was out. I started with some eastern religions, nontraditional theistic ideas, and more, but none of the shoes fit. Ultimately I realized that no matter how shunned I felt, how invalidated my recovery was addressed by others, nor how many times I saw them shake their heads in a socially passable way of placing bets on the duration of my abstinence, that I would just have to accept that uncomfortable feeling of being the outcast as I always had been anyways, that I could approach that sort of recovery as an atheist just as successfully, and likely more successfully than pinning my chances on a nonexistent deity. But anyways, I digress. Just a thought on my own atheism.
IRL distractions call >.< there's always something ready and eager to shit up my day. Hopefully not the case for the rest of yall <3

I would create unlimited cycles of rebirth but before someone dies they indicate how many years they want to remain dead . Passing those many years you are reborn . You also get an option of knowing if you want to have memories from previous lives. I would also put a cap on the amount of mental and physical pain someone suffers . Same goes for animals .

Not sure what would entertain God but if I suddenly became omnipotent I would eradicate the degenerative condition that brought me here without a second thought. I'd have to consider what else I would do to ease suffering, I guess if I was omniscient I'd know all the ramifications and act accordingly. I feel like being omni-everything would get boring very quickly. I'd hope there would still be challenges and satisfactions somewhere in the universe but I guess by definition there wouldn't be. Maybe at some point I'd get so frustrated that I'd strip myself of my powers and appoint someone else God. Or perhaps live on earth as a mortal and use my powers for the very mundane...lower my utility bill and whatnot.

Very good answers, and I could see someone (if they were God or had similar powers) just permanently eradicating all problems that humanity faces, giving good humans positive superpowers while not allowing bad humans (or at least make it cost them something to gain it instead of being freely given), and even reincarnation (for those who wish to reset their own life and start fresh).

I would find a way to cure it. That inescapable truth which most of us have come to: What's the point? Hell, even if it was my only act as a god/dirty/etc I would do it. No person deserves to feel like this. We deserve better

Well that's the lazy answer
If I were god, I guess I'd have perfect knowledge and powers right? I would just manifest that into reality. No reason for discord. Everything as it should be

I'd split the universe in two. In one realm, we'll have racists, rapists, scammers, Karens/Kyles, child abusers and the like.

Everyone else is in the other realm. I'd make sure everyone in Realm II is taken care of. Free from disease; they all have bodies and brains (and parents) they like.

But if anyone wants to go rogue and start acting a fool, I'd kick them over into the other realm.

A literal kick in the ass. Send them flying into the next dimension.

I've read through additional responses and they are quite interesting. Also, I have noticed that most people tend to go towards the other and intervening only when necessary, which makes sense. Additionally, I can understand and somewhat relate to if having the power to affect things to bring about justice, end of suffering, and/or even make things right where things were wrong.

Time-traveler Al Bielek, who was part of both the Philadelphia Experiment and the Montauk Project (on which is based show "Stranger Things"), said decades ago that he traveled to 2037 and was told of a brief nuclear war in 2025. His prediction seems pretty damn accurate!
That, combined with major natural disasters and earth changes, would reduce U.S. population to about 50 million. Naturally, the entire planet will be affected tremendously. Martial law everywhere. I'm really focused on wrapping up what I need to do and pop off before the nukes fly. It's horrifying and reassuring at the same time.

Other: Promote openness to experience in human brain development and eliminate the human preference for "in group" membership. Promote a more egalitarian worldview among humans. Monitor this to promote non-judgemental assessments of others. Reduce (and eventually eliminate) wishful thinking, except when wishful thinking is employed for fun and non-harmful fantasy. Employ strategies to evolve human brain development away from delusional thinking, while empowering the development of critical thinking and the utilization of scientific methodology in every aspect of thinking.

If I was the big G God, then I simply wouldn't have ever created a world where intervention was necessary to alleviate the suffering of my creations. Not sure why I would even need or want to create anything in the first place, aside from maybe an island beach resort just for me.

A perfect being shouldn't need the validation of created beings to feel worthy, and they shouldn't be insulted or upset if their creations refuse to provide it. I'd definitely stay dormant forever, but it would be okay, because I would be the only one who could feel or experience anything. If I got bored eventually, I could snap my fingers and end my own existence, which would erase everything I created at the same time. No need for anyone or anything else to suffer.

I like the ideas that of being godly and then using that power to remove that power. It's almost paradoxical, but yet at the same time humane as no suffering ever came from nothingness. Create nothing, have nothing, take nothing, and just pure nothingness.

In the scenario of being God to create a island resort (or whatever heaven for oneself), is an interesting one for one's entertainment, no harm and what not, just things for one's benefits with no other species, no sentience, and what not.
