On October 21st 2023 at approximately 11:45am, responding to a dispatch call reporting the discovery of unidentified remains in a remote location near [redacted]. I proceeded to and arrived at the scene with my partner, Officer M. McDaniels, badge number 0469.
Upon arrival, we met with the reporting party, Kenneth McCormick, who was walking in the area with their dog and stumbled upon the lifeless remains in a secluded area. The area comprises of harsh [redacted] and there were [redacted] marks in the surrounding area. The witness involved then immediately reported the discovery to the relevant department via mobile phone. We interviewed the witness and recorded their statement, which is attached as Exhibit A.
Description of the Scene:
The body was found in a state of partial decomposition, with damages such that facial identification would be difficult, including [redacted] around the remaining skin and partial digestion. It appeared to be that of an adult, of indeterminate age and gender. The body was clad in the remains of [redacted] and was found without any form of identification or personal belongings nearby, besides [redacted]. Preliminary observations do not suggest obvious signs of external trauma besides the obvious [redacted], but a full examination by the medical examiner's office is required to determine the cause and manner of death.
We immediately secured the scene, established a perimeter to preserve any potential evidence, and prevented unauthorized personnel from entering the area. As a precaution we have taken the details of the witness. We also ensured the area was well-lit and cordoned off to protect the integrity of the scene. [redacted] was contacted to document and photograph the scene.
Pending identification via dental records, the remains have been temporarily recorded as unidentifed.

Post Effects:
We have contacted the medical examiner's office to arrange for the removal of the body and a port-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. The remains will be transported to [redacted] for further examination. A copy of the medical examiner's report will be requested once it becomes available.
In the absence of any immediate identification, we will also initiate efforts to identify the deceased, including fingerprint analysis and a search of missing persons records.
