Imagine a reality where winning a game felt like nothing, and the thrill of victory simply didn't exist. Given how cutthroat the world can be, I can't help but wonder if we'd be happier without that competitive drive.

All my life and also my life in the business world, I to have wondered this along the lines of greed and ego.

The aspect of competitive drive sometimes translates into gee, my neighbor has he newest car or boat, so then I must have more to get to this level and stay the same.

I always wish, never ever in my limited lifetime, when we might go away from collecting money, overall greed which can come from a razor-sharp competitive drive.

Also mix in ego and then it really starts to be a very toxic mix that not only does not do folks any good BUT also the person starting the whole chain of events to "get ahead"

I have seen it too many times where someone acquires their 1st million and then no matter what they NEED more and could care less about the folks around them, just so sad.

You are such a wonderfully intelligent person and wishing you a sunny blue-sky rest of this week.

Without competitiveness, I can't imagine humanity improve to be how we are today. Smartphones are getting modern because countries are competitive, space walks are also a result from countries being competitive. While some people hate being competitive and hard to deal w the feeling, but it's just a necessary catalyst for growth

that's one way of looking at it, perhaps the competition is still there, but once the thrill is gone, things might change quite a bit.

That's a really interesting idea. I definitely think it does create a lot of suffering. But then, it can also push us to be better in what we do. We are also always in competition with our previous selves. Like another member said- without that, we wouldn't progress.

It's also a part of natural selection. If all the genes survive- rather than the strongest ones- we end up with a sickly species. Which I suppose is what has happened to us. Maybe we suffer more because we've found ways to try and nurture defects, rather than preventing them replicating. Of course- eugenics throws up all sorts of moral problems but then- we simply don't abide by natural laws anymore.

It's not terribly practical though- either. How would we choose a mate if we value absolutely everyone all the same?

If there was no consequence when we lost and no reward when we won- why would we bother putting in the effort to do really difficult jobs?

Emissary of the right to die.

I think in such a world, it would be stagnant, no innovations or advancements, and perhaps in some sense, it may be better in some ways, but worse in others. From a pro-choice and right to die perspective, it would not necessarily be a better place if there was no progress towards from a forced-sentience (due to biological instincts from a evolutionary perspective) and not being able to progress society towards a more compassionate, enlightened and rational worldview for bodily autonomy. By that I mean the concept of 'human rights' did not really come into humanity's history until the last few centuries, and only in the last few decades did human rights' really start to expand meaningfully.

In other cases, the embracing of mediocrity and less of a superiority, or wealth gap, could improve the overall quality of life for everyone; no one individual, group, nor entity can be extremely or obscenely unequal nor unbalanced to most others, which leads to more equality of all groups, both socially, economically, and what not.

As someone who personally finds no joy in competition, I think about this a lot.
