Do we have any lawyers here?

I was wondering in case if I fail to ctb and end up with brain damage, would I qualify for medically assisted death(MAID)?
I was thinking to leave a note/will for my family members requesting MAID.

I'm not a lawyer but I know for a fact just leaving a note saying you want MAID wouldn't be sufficient. In some states you'd need to get a doctor to sign for you, and it might look suspicious especially if you have a history of mental health issues. It sucks.

I've talked to a lawyer about getting a DNR and it is not easy. My doctor would have to sign on it and she would never

I think MAID is only for terminal illness, correct me if I'm wrong. If your brain damage was stable and not worsening I think you wouldn't quality on that alone.

THIS IS AN AMAZING QUESTION. TO WAIT AND SEE IF IT WILL BE LEGALIZED IN YOUR COUNTRY OR TO TAKE THE RISK AND POSSIBLY END UP WITH BRAIN DAMAGE then you could potentially qualify. Who knows

So not everyone is allowed to get a dnr?

I'm not sure but I know it's a complex process

Depending on your province, if your doctor will not provide a DNR they may be required - like in Ontario - to provide an "effective referral" I believe, which means to refer to a provider that is not opposed. I would double check that though.

Dying With Dignity Canada has a number of resources regarding end of life planning, but it appears to me from my cursory reading that you either need a very dedicated family or friend who is willing to fulfill your wishes or the ability of decision making capacity.

What are your MAiD laws like? What kind of brain damage are you talking about? Would you still be competent to make a decision?

Short answer: almost certainly not.

Yes, and even if you did, there's a LOT of Grey area with DNR and suicide, ultimately it's up to the doctor or professional treating you after the attempt and often they will save you anyway, and they're unfortunately legally allowed to do so despite your wishes.
