Worst suicide prevention ad ever !

Maybe I'm too silly, but what is the goal of this ad ? Be careful with happy people ??
And did these people agree to their post-mortem image being used ? The answer is NO because they're dead.
It is also mentioned it was their LAST video, but we don't film ourselves every day. These are maybe videos from 6 months before their death.
Perfect non sense. Tell me what you think about this "suicide prevention" ad.

idk I kinda liked it when I saw it.
I think the purpose is to remind ppl that some depressed and suicidal people don't always look so. We hide a lot of what we feel, keep it inside to not burden others.
So If the end goal of the add is just, hey check on people, I think that's good?
Everyone's suicide has their own circumstances and reasons, I don't think you can encompass all in one add, and there are cases for which this add is not really accurate or does much, true. And yeah the ethics of using dead people's videos are myeeehhh iffy.
But I wouldn't hail this as examplary bad or worst suicide prevention or rethoric. Just like, reminder to care for and check on the people around you, in general.
I also like the moves that guy busts about midway through but that's mostly unrelated.

I understand the idea behind this ad, but we know that suicidal people can be very good with hiding it, so it's almost impossible to prevent someone to commit suicide. That's my opinion, but I might be wrong.

I've seen it when it got out and hitted me like a train. I've lost my best friend few weeks before. We were like that. He was the funny guy, while I've been awkward most of the time. He had a massive stroke at the gym.

I don't like the fact that someone's private recordings were used. I wouldn't want the whole world to know that I existed and killed myself. If someone used me like that, I would come back from Nothingness as a poltergeist.

But I like the message itself. It's good to break down stereotypes about depression. :)

I don't like this ad but for different more reasons.

The sentence "many suicidal don't look like suicidal" would want to overcome the stereotypes about suicide, but I personally think that the use of the word "suicidal" in the sentence is just another stereotype, but only more disguised.
I mean, "don't look like suicidal" supposes to mean that common suicidal people show their feelings to others, but that's absolutely wrong in my opinion and it's a common thought of non-suicidal ones.

Moreover, they're not really adding any useful detail to inform people about how to truly help someone, nor making common people understand what can happen in a suicidal mind, but they're only adding more confusion.

I also agree that using people's private recordings is not good at all, even if many of us just don't care about that, cuz we think we'll be already dead.

I think prevention could be a very useful tool to help someone who can be saved, but that's just not the right and useful way to do so, tbh...

I understand the point they're trying to make, but it's probably made by non-suicidal people or someone left behind. Reason why I say that is because it feels like gaslighting. Suicidal people can seem happy, so that's the reason why nobody saw it coming. Could be wrong though.

It reminds me of Robin Williams and how he always wanted to make people laugh. From the first time I saw him I knew something was wrong. The eyes speak volumes.



There are people that are miserable who want to make others happy so that they don't suffer like them.

Personally, the ad made me feel sad.

It's always poignant to see faces to go with the statistics. But yeah, it makes you think whether they were long- term suicidal or, whether it was something that got to them quickly.

If I'm honest, what struck me most was how so many seemed to be around young children. So, I wonder if they were the parents, how long ago the footage was taken. Truthfully- how their children are now going to cope. I lost my Mum to natural causes when I was 3 so- my feelings tend to have a bias towards the child left behind. As insensitive as that may sound.

It doesn't surprise me at all that this world would use their images as 'poster children' though. Presumably, their loved ones consented. Probably with the hopes the campaign would prevent further suicides.

I suppose my honest feelings are- I hope no one does try to poke about in my life to see how I really am. I really wouldn't appreciate an intervention of any sort. If I wanted help, I'd ask for it! The irony being, I'm not sure there's any documented evidence of me looking that cheerful! It ought to be more obvious in my case.

It does definitely make you think though. Were they struggling at that point? Were they masking then?

I'm not actually against some suicide prevention, in terms of awareness and the offer of support. Definitely, we should be more concerned about one another. So, to that end, I don't hate the advert.

The title of the organisation seems wildly optimistic to me though: CALM: Campaign Against Living Miserably. How on earth do they aim to achieve that? Even a lot of non suicidal people I know are miserable! The weirdest thing is- suicide is probably seen as the ultimate solution to living miserably by a great many of us!
