i read that if i CTB in a hotel they might sue for my estate.

the thing is i don't have any money myself, but my name is attached to a family member's bank account with lots of money, so technically im co-owner of that account and if they sue for my estate im worried they'll go for that.

so just need to know whats the maximum amount of money they're suing for? lets say I CTB with SN and made some mess on the bed, so at most they'll sue for a replacement of the bed? or are they suing for reputation damages and stuff that could run into 10s and thousands?

Make other person beneficiary at death. Then it's theirs and not estates.

The larger chain hotels have insurance that will coverthe cost of cleaning the room and replacing anything that is damaged. The hotel isn't going to sue your family for damages. At most they would keep the security deposit.

It is very unlikelt they will sue, but they will likely max out whatever credit card or debit card that you use- for the epense of cleaning up and for the number of nights they can't sell the room because it is out of order. So using a debit card with just enough to cover the cost of the room and the deposit and a little extra just in case- hotel taxes are high so you need to be able to cover this too. Maybe put a hundred extra on top in case their room rate or security deposit amount changes.

Makes sense but I have a feeling all your financial assets become frozen when it is discovered you are dead. I have a feeling this would include debit and credit cards. Might be wrong though...

I can't imagine any well know hotel wanting the publicity of people suiciding in their hotel.

That's definitely wrong- people can keep charging your card until someone calls to shut it down, and the hotel will try to charge whatever they can right away once they know there is an issue like this, because they know there will be damage and the room will be out of order right away. You should assume that whatever amount is available on your card could be charged and not have too much available over what you spend for the room.

OK, thanks for clarifying.

maybe take ur name off that bank account the day before, if questioned give some silly excuse like applying for sliding scale healthcare ect. it'd make a pretty bad name for any hotel suing a grieving family, but also i can see how it might affect business >.< don't mean to sound callous there, but yea. ofc death at hotels isn't unheard of, and it takes a while to pinpoint cause of death, less click-bait than, say, murder, kidnapping. honestly i wouldn't worry abt the hotel esp if its a crappy corporation, just maybe financially disengage could be good.

I work in Hotels and I've never heard of this happening before. I won't discount the possibility entirely but I seriously doubt there would be any legal action taken.

That won't work- there is a much, much easier solution that will work 100% of the time- open another bank account and get a debit card for it and only put a certain amount of funds in the account, and have it a new bank for you. It will take 7 to 10 business days for a debit card and then you're set. The simple solution works, so it's better to not use complicated solutions that won't work.
