Well, would you look at that. The first snow has fallen, and along with it the most tormenting period of the year.

I hate this fucking season. It's cold and dark – especially where I live. I never particularly liked it as a child, and now that I'm older, I flat out hate it. It tests my head and body way too much.

I envy animals that can hibernate through this time. Oh, to fall asleep when the snow falls and wake up with the sun shining again. For many years, I have thought "this winter might be my last" but it never is, because there hasn't been anything to push me off that edge.

I'm weak – I don't have the strength to enjoy winter. I don't feel like I live during winter. I crawl through it like I crawl through every day to get home, like I crawl through every week until the weekend. And I'll crawl until I die.

I'm inside now, but I feel so cold. Fuck this.

I'm sorry friend. I grew up in a year long warm sunny place, so first time I saw real winter it was really sad. All the birds and bugs went away, and it was dark cold and lonely. It also really sucked shoveling ice and snow while super pregnant. Over time though I also saw the beauty in it. As awful as snow is it's also truly beautiful in a rural area. I do empathize with how hard winter is.

Sending you warm hugs and hot coco.

I grew up in the Rocky Mountains, and loved snow and winter as a kid. Now that I'm an old fart, living in a lower altitude and wetter climate, I despise snow and winter. I hate being cold. I want to live where it's warm and sunny all the time.

I dislike this part of the year too. I like to be outside and winter in the UK is usually pretty uncomfortable. I hate being trapped indoors and i don't like being in a centrally heated house, though neither do I want to be cold ofc. I used to like the snow when I was young, and I've always enjoyed driving in snow, but now i just don't have the energy. When I go out, I want the journey to be productive rather than just 'going for a walk.' I find it harder to accomplish stuff in the cold.

I hate winter so much. I have lived in places that were sunny and never had snow and places that had full on blizzards. I used to like snow as a kid but I hate it now. Nov-march is my least favorite time of year.

I love winter. It's the only season I enjoy. I want the cold and dark. I want to wander the snow and rain and be lost in thought while everyone else cowers from the elements. It makes me strong. Summer just makes me think of itch and disease.

I thought I was the only one who liked winter here for a moment. It's my favourite season, I love the darkness, the cold, winter clothing, snow (rare in the UK), just everything about it. I feel safe and cozy. Summer just irritates me, can't stand the heat and all the daylight it brings.

Winter used to be fun growing up, huge packs of snow, my neighborhood friends and me used to build huge igloo"s...

Winters now, the last real thick snow here was over 12 years ago. What's left now is a thin slushy drab which only freezes over real quickly...
Maybe I'm just getting old..

I love the fall :)

In the words of Robert Frost, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening...

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Also, see PeachyCherry's "Winter Sunset" thread. Beautiful!

I've always vacillated between winter and summer as to which one I hate more. I think I've finally settled with a view that they're equally terrible; the biting cold and the suffocating heat are as bad as each other.

I wish I could change places with you. Here in the southern hemisphere this season is hot and days are longer (not a lot longer, but still quite noticeable).

I lived in WA, USA for 3 years. I'll miss the snow. I'm back in N.Ireland, where it eternally rains. Don't get me wrong, I love the rain, but give me some snow too.

I know the feeling. I lived in Norway for 5 years and every winter was just a white out. I miss it a lot. Rain is good, but snow is better. Everything becomes so still and peaceful, the crunch when you walk on it, falling into a drift cos you didn't realise how deep it was. Its soo good.

I miss how the cold takes your breath away in that initial moment on leaving the house. The crunch and your trousers getting stiff from walking in the snow for too long. Stomping off your feet before going inside and all the caked snow falling away. Most of all the quiet. It feels meaningful.

I love fall and winter, and hate summer. It might be my genetics, as I am mostly Northern European

It's cold, dark, and quiet. And peaceful. Everything is dying, and it's the one time of year where everything on the outside environment matches what I feel inside. It makes me not feel so strange for being depressed.
Seeing people laughing and out and about having a good time with the sun shining in warm weather makes me feel even more depressed and isolated.

On behalf of Winter we're offended. Tbh though all that's how I feel about a large portion of summer.
