I've watched today an old sci-fi series from 30 years ago and they predicted the future of 2038. They are probably very wrong. They thought we would have been way more advanced. They talk about cyberbrains and people can connect without speaking. Upload your brain on the internet.

Even people who are very into it can barely predict the future. My mental health issues are psychosis and bipolar. They barely make progress in developing proper therapy. Even if I lived in 50 years I probably would need to take this shitty medication. Moreover the rich would get it first mostlikely.
I doubt that in my lifetime there will be a cure. However technologies can help to cope. In my case I will probably live in poverty and cannot afford them.
I wish science would make more progress. I doubt they would force people to live forever even though they don't want to. I would be probably way too expensive anyway in case they found a method to avoid death.

It's interesting that you brought up how more advanced they thought we would be, because in my opinion technology has slowed way down and we should be so much further off than we are. There should be so much more progress on cancer, space exploration, technology, and yes mental health as well.

Basically, I would just say that I wouldn't hold my breath to ever being "cured", and I don't think society even cares enough.

I would argue maybe the ilness that many people experience inclusing yourself (and me, for that matter) is created (or is) society itself. You cannot make an "independant" (which I define as non-fundamental in this case in the context as a society) cure for an illness when you are the ilness.

What I mean by this is that society can make as many medicines as they wish, but if the problem itself why medicine is needed is the very society itself which also creates these medicines, it is impossible; you cannot outrun your shadow.

To answer your question in a prospective manner: No, I don't think there will be a cure anytime soon. The way society is shaped and the way matters (material and immaterial) are prioritised do not allow for that (in my opinionated prospect).
I don't even know what the fuck is wrong with me.
This could be true for you, but to be honest, I think society doesn't know "what the fuck" is wrong with itself either. Just pump in some medication and we're ready to rumble?

For me death is the cure. It is the only way for me to find peace. Not existing means no suffering. For me death solves all problems and it prevents any ones in the future from arising. I do not see myself as the ill one, rather it is this life that is the problem. I see wanting to die as a rational response to my life circumstances.

I don't want technology to speed up I want it to slow down. It's a huge part of my mental illness. I've felt close to breaking point this last few years. The only thing I'd want is time travel and it's the one thing we don't have. If my memory could be erased that might also do

I suffer from several mental illnesses which I highly suspect come as a result of undiagnosed autism. So, I don't think so, because the problem isn't autism. The problem are the people who bullied me, left me out, made me feel unwanted, etc my whole life because of autism. And I don't think there is a cure for shitty human beings.

It seems incredible to me that science has stopped investigating ways to prolong life to find ways to die painlessly. I suppose it is the echo of the new times.

Actual cures to anything are extremely rare. It's surprising how many medicines are the same as they were 30 years ago.

It does sometimes seem that legitimate treatments are held back, too. For example, psychedelic therapies.

At this rate, it sure doesn't seem like it. It took 10 years to even get a doctor to take my physical pain seriously and not automatically blame it on mental illness as soon as they couldn't find an explanation after a few standard tests, never mind actually get a diagnosis. Lots of doctors don't even really understand MECFS, and awareness has only recently picked up in the last little bit because of Covid. Research is still in the early stages and the funding towards this research is pitiful. There isn't even an approved treatment, let alone a cure.

And even if there is a cure somewhere in the future (and within my natural lifespan), I'd still be left with all the other issues I've got, most of which are unbearable in their own right. I've tried everything I could that has been accessible to me in a desperate attempt to make it all a little less shitty, but the issues I have are either permanent, or have been largely unresponsive to treatment. I'm still trying different things, but I'm not optimistic, and I'm not gonna sit around in the dark and suffer for another god-knows-how-many-years on the off chance that hell freezes over and my life suddenly becomes reasonably bearable on a somewhat consistent basis.

Everything I'm doing now is basically just self-directed palliative care at this point – temporary solutions to permanent problems – until I'm finally able to end this whole shit-show once and for all, with the last little shred of dignity I have left.

No. not even in 100 years.

Complex genetic illnesses are incurable since every part of your body is affected, getting a new body would be easier than fixing every single one of my affected cells.

Mental illness affect and express itself through brain and the progress in the last 10 years in this field of study are utterly amazing. This is a fact.
Will neuroscience soon help who's suffering today? This is my hope, I want to share with you.
