  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Something I have been curious to know- will the person be in the news for sure after they're discovered in hotel room or their home? That would be horrible and kind of embarrassing because everyone you know would find out how u went away?

They're certainly not going to film you, at least here in the US, if that's what you're concerned with. I have no idea where you are, or what laws govern what the news media can and can't do where you are. If it's some kind of sensational ctb, a local news network may pick up on the story, but they may not, too. I'm sure it depends somewhat on how busy of a news day it is that day. I don't think there's enough news "time" to cover everyone who kills themselves on a daily basis.

Alot will depend on where and the nature. For example, unless your famous, the news will care less about a suicide in the home for someone residing in NYC. If your in rural NY, there's a chance they will have a small article just mentioning it.

Of course if you do something in a very public manner, or choose a more "unconventional" method (fire, explosive, jump from tower, etc...) than I'd definitely expect there to be media coverage.

And yeah, if you, say, blew yourself up with strapped-on explosives, high atop a suspension bridge, while singing the Star Spangled Banner, I would assume that the news would pick up on the story. Hell, someone with a phone might even record the event and post it in all its glory on the Internet, too.

Suicides of non-famous people aren't usually reported unless it's a murder-suicide or it looks like an accident.

Thankyou for the thoughtful answer.
