Gen Z knows there's no hope. They're checking out in high numbers. It could be mostly because of bullying, but I suspect they, like me, feel that humanity has reached its ceiling. There's nothing left to do but do what past generations have done, which is empty and pointless. Learning through observation is sometimes better than learning through experience.

No but I've seen enough suicide reports via yahoo news and Google news to form an idea. But the suicides of the old aren't reported, so who knows?

The internet providers so much suicide fuel. That's a big factor.

I doubt that there will be legalised euthanasia everywhere no matter how many people are aware of the fact that existence is futile and harmful. In fact the stigma towards suicide is only getting worse, this society is becoming more anti choice with reliable method options becoming more and more restricted. The society needs slaves which is why people continue to tell lies about suicide being "irrational", and anyway if suicide was fully accepted as being the logical choice that it is, then so called "professionals" like therapists wouldn't make as much money from scamming people.

Vast majority of people don't need euthanasia, they just need to be able to legally buy the drugs required to CTB.

If Benzos were easily accessible I would be gone already.

Exactly. The media ignores suicides of older people, so it appears to the public that younger ones suicide the most, while it's the opposite, the suicide rates grow along with age in most places. Also, the USA has a highly increasing rate of younger people suiciding, but it's not true for the entire world. In many places, it's actually decreasing.

Data on suicide is complicated, often biased and usa-centered, but here are some resources you can check:

I did the math. The suicide rate globally is .002%. 800,000 suicides divided by 8 billion.

One more thing that often contributes to this perception of younger people

Low enough so that society can push it under the carpet, isn't it? It's hard to see room for improvement, especially when many ones talking about suicide have their cognitive capabilities questioned and invalidated.

At least some places are legalizing euthanasia for terminal cases, which is an improvement, and likely to become a global trend in the future.

You know, actually, we are headed towards a complete societal collapse and it might happen in our generation's lifetime. If surviving the apocalypse and rebuilding the world sounds like fun to you, then at least you have that.

Hard to predict for sure. Within the next 200 years at worst, within the next 20 at best. Realistic estimate? 25-50 years, I think. I am sure we can agree that the current direction of the world is NOT sustainable.

Well, if you have kids knowing that the collapse is coming it can be logical. If you have a large close knit family to support eachother odds of survival go way up.

800,000 suicides divided by 8 billion is actually 0.01% (1 person in 10,000). So either one of your two numbers is wrong, or you need a new calculator.

I have no sympathy for the world. Like an old forest, its time to burn has come. Given the choice, I'd happily be the one that tossed the match.

Only when all the boomers finally die off....

and WE become the boomers!

Tho it likely won't happen just because of that... Natural selection and all that.

I doubt just gen-Z will make ctb acceptable, but I think the way the world is changing will definitely do that.

I know. It's fucking annoying.

There being soo many boomers still alive, more and more even, will be a MAJOR social problem, possibly causing collapse.
most other possible factors not considered.

Vietnam war was mostly in the 60's, so most vets would be in their early 80's. Technically, they could be in their early 90's or 70's.

The real problem is that birth-rates have been declining for a long time, and the old just keep on living with better medicine. Baby-boomer generations start out huge and stay alive thx to modern medicine, while future generations are getting smaller and smaller.

This is the direction demographics are moving in most developed countries. Japan was just ahead of the curve.

No you misunderstand. There are more Vietnam Vets alive now than during the war because more boomers claim to be vets. Stolen valor. There are more boomers alive now because the preceding generation is classed as boomers.

depending on the country they'll either try keeping you alive to squeeze as much cash as possible, or it'll be the first thing they suggest to you because it saves them money, meaning many lives will be lost despite them having preventable problems.
Even before Bill C-7 entered into force, the country's Parliamentary Budget Officer published a report about the cost savings it would create: whereas the old MAID regime saved $86.9 million per year – a 'net cost reduction', in the sterile words of the report – Bill C-7 would create additional net savings of $62 million per year. Healthcare, particular for those suffering from chronic conditions, is expensive; but assisted suicide only costs the taxpayer $2,327 per 'case'. [source]
who knew killing people with preventable problems instead of giving them proper treatment is profitable.
tl;dr i would never trust the health"care" system to make a decision that's in the patient's interest.

Right.

Ah, I thought we where talking about demographics. Less and less people are being born so less and less youths can be fed to the machine to provide for a (at least relatively) increasing elder population
