  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

Do you think euthanasia/legally assisted suicide will ever be profoundly accepted in society? Imagine if we could just ask a doctor to put us to an infinite sleep without having a terminal illness. Of course you'd have to fulfill some requirements such as a valid reason (like severe mental issues), maybe a clean criminal record etc. Why aren't we allowed to end our lives? Because we would regret it anyway? Animals/pets are also put to sleep to prevent them suffering.

It seems that it may be going that way in Canada. I'd imagine it will always be controversial, but then in Canada I have heard of cases where people have been granted assisted death/MAID instead of being granted proper disability funding and accommodation, and there hasn't been much outrage about it... which is so dark. I'm not against assisted death however I am in cases where someone states clearly resources would help them and then they are denied.

The animals/pets thing is a good comparison to make and I'm still not sure what the pro-lifers response to that is. The kind thing to do is end a persons suffering. Simple as that really. I think the only caveat reasonable is that there should be no (reasonable) potential for significant improvement. But even that is at the start of a slippery slope.

I'm not in agreement that the caveat of having a clean criminal record should be necessary though. Even an unspent one. After all not all laws are judt and true and we're sometimes forced into a situation where we have to break the law to survive. Though my full argument is more complex than that.

I'm really not sure what will be acceptable in future at this point. This new ruling on abortion is a prime example of the way our justice system can turn for the worst. It also indicates a mindset that's far from conducive with pro-choice. The only redeeming factor being the split amongst the panel. 6-3 in favour of the current ruling though. I think we may be heading into a very tentative time in himanity. All previous forms of rule have fallen. Many societies have come and gone. We may be nearing the end of our civilisation as we know it.

euthanasia/legal assisted suicide won't ever be legalized in most of the world countries the elite need slaves after all, if it was legal to be euthanasia for any reason like a relationship breakup nobody would be alive everyone would just leave and civilization would collape the elite can't let that happen

MAiD (Bill C7) in Canada for the mentally illl is not constitutional right until March 21, 2023 and only if all criteria is met.

Advocacy can have a positive contribution.

Some day... one day...soon...

I cannot imagine it ever being accepted for everyone, everywhere, but I do see it in the future potentially becoming acceptable everywhere for those with severe and terminal illnesses. If euthanasia was legalised everywhere, people would begin to realise how pointless life really is and how it is just suffering for the sake of it, and as mentioned above, then the society would lose their workers.

To me it is cruel trying to force people to live against their wishes. None of us asked for this life in the first place and it is horrifying hearing about people getting damage from risky methods. I do wish we lived in a world where it is accepted, a peaceful death should be available to all.

I doubt it. Pharmaceuticals don't find it convenient for people to choose when and how to end their existence. All types of medications they give to people keep them billionaires. They care little about how it affects people or the side effects. If people choose to leave instead of taking an antidepressants etc, they will be losing money somehow.

At times it even seems genocide is far more socially accepted than suicide.

Some genocidal maniacs can even be seen as heroes while someone who commited suicide is seen as a sinner who deserves to be tortured in hell for all eternity. Lol welcome to clown world.

Canada, does seem to understand a person's pain more than other Countries I was reading this story and at the bottom of the page, they allowed a 17-year-old girl assisted dying after she was raped.

Cheers

It looks like this happened in Holland not Canada, and it was a case where treatment was withheld so it was more that she was allowed to starve herself to death without intervention. This is really sad though.

There is not many countries in EU where euthanasia is legal only in Spain, Holland, Belgium and Luxembourg.
