Do you think there is a big chance something will interrupt it again after death?
Sorry- not the person you resonded to but- you mean reincarnation? But then, if that is the case- chances are you won't remember this life in your next one. Do you remember you past lives now? Is it problems in your past lives that are troubling you or, your life now?
It's understandable that people that fear life, also fear the prospect of being made to expereince it again. But then- if we really are trapped in these neverending cycles of birth, death, rebirth and repeat then- one of a few things its happening.
Either that is actually happening but the absolutely enormous majority of us don't remember. Or- we don't remember, because it isn't happening. Or- the part of us that is 'recycled' doesn't store memories.
Either way- chances are, there's little to worry about- as I see it. I certainly feel sorry for the future and past incarnations of me- if they exist but then- I don't believe they have much to do with the current 'me'.
It's almost like any of our waste products- poo, eye lashes, nail clippings. They were all part of us. We simply get rid of them as waste without needing to worry what happens to them next- because they are no longer part of us.
I suppose it depends what you think needs to be present for 'you' to exist as 'you' also. Say you were born to different parents in a different country 200 years in the future as a different gender. Just how similar would that life experience be to yours now? What is it about 'us' that makes 'us' unique? Or, are we all basically the same? Would you have the same sort of thoughts if your life was entirely different?
I suppose it all hinges on what consciousness actually is and, where it comes from. I suppose my personal feeling is that it is something that likely evolved as part of the brain to give creatures a survival edge. Along with all our other attributes. Bacteria and plants don't and can't effectively run away from bleach. They maybe don't even realise what it is- until it's too late. Animals seem slightly better at learning what a threat is and staying clear of it.
I just think developing an ego. A sense of importance and unique individual worth is another clever trick whereby our natural instincts are reinforced to protect ourselves. Plus- to procreate too.
The more interesting idea to me is how we are able to overcome those natural instincts- to practice anti-natilism and to suicide. Theoretically, we shouldn't be able to make the choice to do either. Although- maybe there's a mechanism that kicks in to do it to protect an entire species. When resources are stretched say.
But, without this level of consciousness- could we suicide? Could we control anything in fact? Do animals in the wild do more or less to prevent rape say? Is there anything to suggest they even see it as a wrongful act? I suspect our consciousness gives us a way of perceiving that is so multi faceted. Overall though- it's enabled us to becone the dominant species here.
Personally though, I'm not sure it's anything so different than learning to walk on our hind legs or having an opposing thumb to grip with. Why wouldn't the brain have evolved just as much as the body? We had a tail at one point- for goodness sake! Why is it such a leap for an animal to go from feeling pain and being aware of its surroundings becoming aware of itself in its surroundings, to a creature losing more or less, a fifth limb? Why can't higher consciousness simply be something we evolved to produce? Rather than some mysterious force that body skips through the ages.
