Emissary of the right to die.

@Shewaitsforme Yes, this is the same experiences I had with therapist and counselors in the past. While I never mentioned suicidality or even breach the topic of suicide (too risky), I got the vibe of that they are just treating each patient as a number, just going through the protocols. Their interests aren't to help the patient's, it's to protect their job and further their career. Rarely is it ever about the patients' interests and values (yes while there exists mental health professionals who may believe in the same as the patient and pro-choice, they are very very rare and it's risky and a huge gamble to try to find one like that).

@Circles Yes, it's very sad that society has this hive mind of life is great and refuses to acknowledge that suicide is an option and sometimes can be a solution. Such a shame and the only societies that come close to accepting voluntary euthanasia are the Dutch, Swiss, and Belgians. Even then, it's a narrow road with so much hassle and one has to meet stringent criteria to even be accepted, not to mention pay a large sum of money.

@Ella Disenchanted Well said, the survival instinct is a bitch to overcome and anyone who can overcome it is very brave to do so.

@scales Sad, but true and the vast majority of r/SW posts are of that demographic, which gives the public an inaccurate image of suicide and the right and choice to die. While I can understand people not wanting suicide as a first option, it is just absurd to not even accept it being an 'option' or last resort when other things have failed. People simply don't understand and don't want to understand.

i think there are lots of reasons that society is so offended by suicide ... different reasons for different people, and certainly the reasons already mentioned in response to your original post apply to some portion of the population. i think a big reason for most "normal" or "weill-adjusted" people is that they cannot understand why anyone would ever choose to kill him/herself, and people fear and/or are repulsed by things they do not understand. anytime i have ever told someone like that about my plan (always without details, which i know would push them over the edge), the response is confusion -- often even anger -- exacerbated by a complete failure to entertain the possibility that this might be the right thing for me, and even the best thing for me and the people whose lives i infect. they just assume that i am completely fucked up and irrational (i think i am neither ... at least with regard to this matter), and they generally make no real effort to understand how any of this "works" or how someone can get to this place. it is so foreign to them as to be offensive and it is easiest for them to just dismiss it as objectively "wrong" and crazy.

It is buzzard that people make the extraordinary assumption life is always worth it act like it's fact. It's on you to disprove it etc.

Because society is a corrupt system driven by greed and enslavement if others. A sick place that seeks to trap individuals in debt and exploit their minds and bodies until they die. The amount suffering of a person has to endure over the course of their lives to merely have a roof over their head and decent food is horrible. Look at the homeless working poor who's full time labor will not even afford them shelter and food. Society's answer is to take on tens of thousands in debt to learn skills which a slavemaster can exploit.

Suicide is a triumphant rejection of this hellish system, and a freedom from mental illness and the horrible medications that they give to poison is int acceptance of this nightmare. That's why society forbids it, because it loses a slave and a paying customer.

Well said, especially the last paragraph. It makes perfect sense why society is so hard-pressed to reject suicide and even sanctioning human rights and civil rights abuse to force someone to live. Yet it is hypocritical in sanctioning the death penalty for heinous people (even going as far as to giving them a peaceful exit via lethal injection). Society is all fucked up.

I'm a grown man, I want to do whatever I want with my life, including ending it. I owe nothing to no one.

The rulers of society want to get as much labor and $ out of people as possible.

It's fucked up that communism is seen as some type of alternative to capitalism. Both systems want people to constantly labor for the ruler's benefit. Same with different political parties, they don't offer an alternative way of life, they perpetuate this system of subjugation.

Suicide is escape from that.

I agree. The irony of society is that they apply this logic to just about everything else, yet when it comes to choosing when and how to die on one's own terms, they become irrational and even demonize the person who just wants their own suffering to end.

Exactly. As long as they can get something ($$$$) out of you (or your relatives) then your life is "precious"
Nobody actually cares if you kill yourself as long as it's painful and you die alone and suffering

Society views suicide as a weakness. We're not allowed to talk about it without some type of consequence, but if we don't voice our intentions and we do CTB, then society mourns what they could've done. We tried to seek help, but get labeled and stigmatized. We tried to manage it on our own, but we're called lazy and weak. Sometimes I think we're like emotional sponges for society to lay their problems on, and after we're gone they don't have that person anymore to talk about, but in the end, no one really cares. They say their platitudes and offer dime-store therapy to us just to make themselves feel good again.

And you forgot that they move on with their lives shortly after.

Exactly, and depending on how important you were to them, they're may be a remembrance a year from now and so on, but if you're not that noticeable in life, people get over their grief in a month and life moves on. Actually find it better if my death doesn't make a blip in their consciousness.
