Why is Propranolol necessary for SN?

Why is Propranolol recommended for the SN method?
Just for heart rates, or are there also other advantages?

As far as I know, beta blockers like Propranolol are only meant to lower your blood pressure, as after you ingest SN, it makes your heart beat faster and increases blood pressure. This is the only reason why it's advised to use it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
