Hey,

Why is it that people feel a need to prevent suicide? Because they don't want to hurt without you there? Because it's the "right" thing to do? Because they love you? I just seems like everyone wants us suicidal folks to live so they won't hurt, but isn't that selfish? Why are we called selfish when we feel like a burden, but forcing someone to live when they're miserable isn't selfish? Is it just me or is that selfish?

All of the above. It's what society thinks is "best", they don't want to grieve, they want you to "get better"

The thing I've heard the most is that people feel like its the right thing to do. That they would be shit humans if they did absolutely nothing. I feel like a lot of them misunderstand the difference between helping and forcing a shit existence.

They're both selfish. If I was to live for someone else I'd be putting them first if they were to let me die they'd be putting me first. It's just a question of which will prevail. They don't want to become suicidal themselves which is what might happen if they think they could have done something or the only reason they're alright in the first place is because they've got you in their lives. They might just be much better at hiding their problems

Many act with a religious fanaticism. The idea being that since in their minds suicide is akin to murder, if they are aware and don't "do" anything to stop it. (virtue signaling about why suicide is bad is good enough!) Then they will be held guilty for their crimes and be condemned to hell. My mother, and the whiny anti-suicide group, (a bunch of teens from her church all believe this).

I'm sorry, but that's a bunch of bullshit. Your opinions do not have a say in my choice of living or dying. I'm glad they have something to hold on to, but that doesn't mean I do.

I think that everyone should have the right to end their lives whenever they want. We should have a right to die (no matter the reason why) as well as we have a right to live.

They probably just don't want the responsibility of your death on their hands. Do they really care about you getting better? No, that's why they spout the same pro life lines over and over again. They don't care about you or want to hear your story. It probably just makes them feel a little better about themselves. People should be allowed to go if they choose.

If I prevent someone from ctb I'm the selfish one not them. The decision should be respected.

Lol I just had another argument with someone over this. I really think I'm being gaslighted at this point. Keeps saying that society is good trying to stop me from ctb and that life is valuable. Said that I'm the problem and even though healthcare isn't the best I should try harder because atleast others are trying for me. Said I'm part of the world's problems. I can't even.

Probably going to ctb in the coming days. I dont even care how at this point.

It's weird to prevent ctb while feeling suicidal. It's like you're telling someone not to do what you want to do. Ironic.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm a first responder and people keep telling me that I need to live for my job. Fuck my job. I don't need to stay for anything. If I want to die than It's my right to do as I please.

One theory I have why people have such an abhorrence towards suicide is the survival instinct. We spend our entire lives evading the inevitability of death. There's a 2006 British-American documentary film called The Bridge which captures real-life suicides jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. What I found particularly interesting about the film is that none of the suicides jumped to their deaths straightaway. One jumper turned his back on the bridge and did a backflip. One witness thought he was bungee jumping.

government tries to stop suicide becauses then who will pay taxes , corporates tries to stop bcz then who will work like a slave , parents try to stop bcz then who will take care of them when they get old and so on .

It's a reflex to seeing someone about to die and trying to save their life. You don't think about if maybe dying is the best thing that could happen to them. People don't think oh good he's dying I'm glad for him.

Because it's the moral thing to do, it's natural instinct otherwise if you saw someone about goto the their lives would you go to help them and bring them to safety or the other choice is leave them to their fate ans then you have the guilt on your mind 24/7. What if I had saved that woman/ chap from the bridge ?

So because something is instinctive, it's morally right?

Some people have the irresisitable impulse and instinct to kill.

Does that make it right?

Not sure your explanation holds up, to be honest.

Furthermore, if you do something so you won't feel guilty as you're implying, that's quite a self-centered reason to save someone's life.

But, I digress.
