His rise reminds me of the one of Trump. However they underestimated Trump even more. Betting companies see DeSantis as favorite. Though Trump could ruin his chance. It will be very interesting how DeSantis will react. Maybe he thinks he can wait. I mean Trump could even run as independent and ruin DeSantis career.

2016 was astonishing for me. I did not spend that much time on politics to that time. Even way less on the US. I can remember I bought my favorite news magazine to read about the US 2016 (roundabout a week prior to it). They made fun of Trump, said he humiliated himself and the GOP. They wrote something like it will take a long time to recover from Trump. It was a lesson for them because they relied on a right-wing populistic.

For me this was a very informative lesson. It taught me be less susceptible for conventional wisdom bullshit. The whole German speaking press writes almost the same opinion about the US. It really is a bubble. They copy many texts of US media elites. I think they see for example the NYT as role model.

I tried to diversify my news outlets. I watch more independent media since. But I think the US independent media is way better than German independent media. I follow US politics more closely since. And I enjoy it.

But I probably have a lot of biases. It is difficult to estimate/judge the atmosphere of a country if you never visited it.

So you can give me your impression why you think DeSantis is popular. I will give you mine.

DeSantis benefits of Trump's downturn. They are searching for a new strong leader. Trump has a huge followership in the base. Though the party and media elites have dropped Trump. Due to the fact he led to 3 lost elections. And his response was often the election was rigged. I think he said something insane prior to the Midterms. When the GOP wins he fully deserves the credits, and when they lose he has no respsonsibility. Trump is too extreme for independents. At least on decorum and civility. I think policy wise DeSantis is similar to Trump. I am not sure how much DeSantis values democracy. I think most Americans have more confidence in him than me.

DeSantis is successful in the culture war. I think he has some popular stances on it. During the covid crisis he could present himself as fighter for liberty. And I think liberty is very essential for many Americans. I think Trump or DeSantis are as American as apple pie. Trump always talks like the common man not this politician bullshit. I think many liked that. He framed himself as the fighter against the elites. Which was super popular. With Clinton as enemy it was easy to portray the Dems as arrogant.

DeSantis has probably some popular stances on economy. In this catastrophe recently he could portray himself as a strong leader.

I think DeSantis would be the favorite against Biden or Newsom. But it is not unlikely that Trump succeeds to ruin his chance. The GOP leaders won't like that.

Man, this guy is really believing that politics is real or relevant in any way... When January 5 times a thousand happens then politics will be worthy of being involved with, until then it is just a sleight of hand while you're being enslaved in a scientific, methodic way.

DeSantis is all about "choice" and small government. No CRT or LGBT+ history and school choice. He's kinda the typical conservative who ignores uncomfortable truths like LGBT+ and black oppression rather than try to atone for it. Imo he's the peak of ignorance and a spoiled brat, so he's the perfect fit for Florida.

I disagree with the Right and Desantis. But DeSantis is a very smart politician. He is strategic and plans all his moves. The districting in florida and his margin of victory shows how smart he is.

And I applaud his battle against Disney.

Black oppression hasn't existed in America in my lifetime. Saying it's real is nothing but an excuse for failure and a way for democrats to fool them into voting for them. There are so many great black people in America and they share my opinion. Neither DeSantis or Trump have a problem with black people or LGBT, they just don't believe in giving them special rights or bumping them to the front of the line with no merit.

LGBT people are only asking for the same rights as straight people. Straight teachers can talk about their spouse, but when a gay teacher does it, they're a creep or trying to indoctrinate children.
While they may not have a problem with black people personally, they don't have to in order to perpetuate oppression. I'm having a brain fart right now, but I'll get back to you with sources.

I can't find what I'm looking for, so here's my two cents. Minorities have historically been segregated and those divisions still exist today due to gerrymandering and white developer's aversion to making businesses and housing in poor minority neighborhoods. Minorities are also over represented in prisons (due to their neighborhoods being overpoliced and not having the money to pay for better lawyers) and used as cheap labor.
The elephant in the room is why minority neighborhoods are overpoliced and imo that comes down to stereotyping them as criminals. I don't believe that poor minorities commit more crimes than poor whites. I think that the crimes of poor whites are under reported due to them being monitored less which creates a feedback loop. Maybe that's a remnant of segregation times idk.

Finally, a handful of black people reaching high positions in society are bound to happen given how many black people there are. Just cause some got lucky and didn't run into racism on the way up to where they are now, doesn't mean that racism doesn't exist.

Racism definitely exists, but it's not coming from the direction that the media and the mob want you to believe. I 've personally never known a white person that expresses racism towards others.

If black oppression isn't real then can you explain racism against black people? Like yes, not everyone stops it from standing on their way. Some people even had an easy life although they are black. And we can even go as far to say that not all black people experiences racism but it depends on where you've lived or the people around you.

No offense but just because you haven't experienced something doesn't mean it hasn't happened. The media isn't completely wrong. And I don't agree with the media so this is not biased.
