Remember in the movie Elysium they had that medical bed thing that ultimately saved somebody's life because it was able to diagnose and treat the person's illness on the spot? Wish we had that, you know? Wonder how many people on here wouldn't be if this was possible.

I'm CTBing because of an apparently unsolvable medical issue, and after seeing countless medical professionals, I've only ended up more fucked up. I felt let down throughout the process of trying to find treatment, and constantly felt gaslighted by the doctors I talked to. This led me to the realization that medicine is still such an "art" in some areas when trying to make diagnoses, rather than a firm science where you know they'll figure out the issue correctly and be able to give you a correct treatment. It's frustrating and with so much progress in tech in so many areas, it feels like medical treatment, which can be super expensive, should be sure to fix the problems you come to doctors for.

Just wishing we had those med beds already and medical issues as a primary reason to CTB were no longer relevant. I had mental problems and suicidal thoughts before my medical problems got worse, but I just wonder if I could have worked through those if I could feel healthy physically.

Too late for me, but hope they develop better medical practices in the future and diagnoses become less of a guessing game than they feel like they are now.

There are many people suffering from illnesses, diseases, syndromes that modern medicine have no answers for. Even if they can figure out what is wrong, many times there is no treatment other than symptom management. I don't think they really consider medicine a firm science, as you put it. There's a lot of art in it, and it takes a bit of luck sometimes, too, in that you need to find the right doctor who "thinks differently", or has seen things, that others have not. That's probably why they call it "practicing" medicine. I feel for your situation. As a matter of fact, I was talking with someone else here on SaSu who has unsolvable medical issues going on and they want to CTB exactly for the same reason as you. Can't say I blame them. I hope somehow you can find the answers you seek. Good luck.

Can I ask some questions if you don't mind?
What are your physical symptoms, are they chronic (been going on for 6 months or more)?
Have you been examined by a doctor and they can't find anything substantially wrong?
What type of personality are you? Are you a people pleaser? Are you self conscious?

Maybe after another few decades of improvements in tech and then another few decades of training systems we can get halfway there. Medical diagnosis is just a stupidly complex problem especially when you have to consider that people don't show the same symptoms when they have the same illness.

Thanks for the questions. Used to have severe TMJD (jaw issues), made the mistake of getting jaw surgery, now have a plethora of issues including difficulty breathing, chronic migraine symptoms (been told it isn't specifically migraine, but the symptoms are very similar and just render my mind an absolute mess where I can't organize thoughts, don't ever feel present, etc.), nonstop discomfort/pain in various areas of my face/head, and a few others.

And yeah, so it's been 2 years after the surgery and dealing with that stuff. Got an MRI, seen dentists, orthodontists, oral surgeons, various kinds of facial muscle specialists, etc. At first I figured the doctors were the professionals and I went with their recommendations and did braces, splint, palette expander, physical therapy, dry needling, Botox, chiropractic work and none of this helped for more than a few hours at most. I was pretty explicit about what the symptoms were and what I thought was the problem. Not really a people pleaser, I mostly say what I think because I appreciate honesty. Used to be very self conscious and mostly freed myself from this until after the surgery and it felt like my mind was falling apart. I dunno. Never should have got the surgery, but at this point I'm kinda over talking to any more doctors. Overall, they all seemed to think things looked mostly okay and I just shouldn't be having the issues I was having, and felt they may have thought I was exaggerating things. I'd tell them if I had tried something already and I just stopped hearing any new ideas to try. I'm just straight up tired at this point and can't live this way, and can't try anything else that's going to cost lots of $$$ or take another year to see if it works.

Again, thanks for being interested.
