Why does most people seem to be against having a Signal, Matrix, Telegram, etc, group?

Every suggestion i see about this gets downvoted or turned down and were asking for this for a good reason, what if the forums gets taken down?

I get some of the mentionned platforms in the title might not have the ToS we need or the level of security that wed deem acceptable. It could be other socials too though not just chat platforms..

Having any sort of official sansu chat is more of a moderation headache than it is worth. The jannies do not want to deal with having to manage an off-platform chat on top of the forum. Even if it is not run by them, if they give their blessing for it and designate it the "official sansu chat", then if anything bad happens on there, if anything even just questionable happens or gets brought up or discussed on there, anything that makes that chat look bad, guess who gets held accountable? The jannies who openly proclaimed it as the official chat of the forum and thus drove traffic to it.

Hell, even if they don't designate it as the official sansu chat, even it just being shilled openly will have misguided forum members confusing it as such, and bad actors portraying it as such.

Nothing stopping you from creating your own chats as long as you don't openly shill it.

The same logic applies in my mind to when I used to try the dating apps... and I'd get a match, then the woman would say something like "I'm not always on here so lets go to Whatspp" or something else. I mean, like after one or two chats... that's how I knew a scam was coming. I would always ask why we couldn't talk a little first see if we like each other.

I mean, we met on that app, she was using it to meet people and it is working and we are chatting, right? So how would it be "easier" to chat somewhere else? If you don't want to talk to me enough to get to know me on the site where we both joined to meet people, then I assume she isn't that interested.

Long story short... whenever I'm talking to someone on a site and they immediately want to talk on another site because it is "easier" I assume something else is in play... they want to be somewhere that is easier to track me down without having to earn my trust... which usually comes with negative consequences to me.

This is going to be most people's reasons. A lot of folks are comfortable exchanging messages here or talking in private chats here. IF you find someone you like, get along with, and want to roll the dice with trusting elsewhere, that's both of your call... but it at least only affects the two of you. Having an external "dedicated" site to chat potentially exposes people who didn't roll those dice.

I meant more like an open group chat, not private. Itd be no different than people dming on the forums after talking to someone on the threads.

There is already an open chat on this forum for that, though. Any advantages of having a chat on another forum would have to be weighed against the fact that anyone chatting there could be tied back to their same account here more easily.

Yea, it's just very clunky to use especially on mobile and if the forums gets taken down chat goes down with it

It's a risky topic for a forum to support. It would be a risky topic for an other forum or chat room to support. If this site ever got truly taken down, and users elsewhere could be directly tied to here, it would make that next site much easier to take down. I think that's the sort of thing that gives people pause about supporting too many cross-links between sites.
