Why do people request bans

I'm aware that some people here will request bans to prevent themselves from using this site if they find it harmful to themselves. I'm wondering why this is done instead of simple account deletion. Does banning mean IP banning or something else where you can't just make a new account vs. account deletion? Is there any reason not to just delete ones account?

which disables your account, aka self ban. Some people ask for bans instead because the self ban feature can be reversed for a bit if you log back in, so if someone wants to keep themselves off the site they ask a mod to ban them sometimes.

If you disable your account, you can make a ticket to re-enable it. Generally, we don't allow people to have multiple accounts pending a ticket.
