  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

I've only watched the first season and I found it okay. However, when going online, the reviews from people were.....well what do you expect. The controversy just stemmed from the excessive condemnation of suicide. People on Quora were angry at how it portrayed suicide as being okay in some circumstances where they think it's "never okay in any circumstance".

I don't know whether I'll watch the second season but do you like the show or not?

I like it -- the first season that is. The second season is quite boring tbh.

I noticed that criticism too. I think the main criticism is how it "romanticized" suicide, which is frankly a load of crock. Those people only feel comfortable having a discussion about suicide if the person doing it is demonized at some level. It's frustrating - the only way to de-stigmatize it is to bring it out into the open and have an honest conversation about when it might actually be ethical, but apparently even just discussing it is seen as harmful, "contagious," or romanticizing it. I think that's why the creators were pressured so much into including those useless hotlines in the second season.

The only thing I'm worried about with 13 reasons why is people might see suicide as a way to get revenge or attention. Sure, some people use suicide for that, but a lot of people do not. Other than that, I didn't think it was that bad.

It's a shame that society can't have a rational debate about suicide in society.

Looks like the usual social stigma around suicide and perhaps some virtue signalling thrown in as well.

It's a shame that society can't have a rational debate about suicide in society.

It's also a shame that there are such negative connotations around "flak" when it is so useful for shooting down planes ;(

I just watched the suicide scene at the end of season one. Girrrrl. Talk about unrealistic. Are you telling me the chick managed to nick both radial arteries that precisely with so little effort and without getting messy? Fuck off :pfff::pfff:
