Discussion Why can celebs OD but not us?

Disclaimer: I'm not trying to OD, I know it doesn't work, and mainly because our bodies can't handle that much poison in our system so it's our natural response. That, and most meds are covered with stuff that makes you sick if you take too many. So why have there been successful drug suicides from celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Amy Winehouse, and more? Is it because they had other drugs like heroin and whatnot? ( I don't know the specifics of each death. ) because they can afford the pricey stuff?

I could never do overdose due to my gastroparesis, but I'm just curious. Working on figuring out if I can literally stomach SN. I've got plenty of metoclopramide for it.

Marilyn Monroe overdosed with Nembutal, cause it was legal at the time. I'd guess Amy Winehouse and many of the other suicides are due to having drugs like heroin.

I am definitely no expert, but I will give my opinion just know that is all it is. I wouldn't try to pretend to know for sure, because I don't.

I think one thing to take into account is that many of these celebs have been doing hardcore recreational drugs for years and years. That does two things. 1) It destroys their body from the inside and 2) It allows their body to build a tolerance for it. They need more and more and more to get the same high, and they can afford it. A lot of times they're also mixing these drugs with sleeping pills and alcohol and who knows what else. If I took up heroin (as an example) today, I have no doubt it would eventually kill me. The problem is it's a slow death filled with pain both physical and emotional and not just on yourself, but those who care about you. Also, if I am not mistaken Michael Jackson's death was due to propofol which I imagine is somewhat similar to N, since it's an anesthetic albeit one made for humans as far as I am aware.

Monroe had a lot of Nembutal in her system and it is somewhat mysterious/criminal suspiscion of what happend. Winehouse had alcohol and was bullimic. Philip Seymour Hoffman got back into heroin and perscriptions. Heath Ledger on od of meds. I don't know...they just fucked up.

Sometimes it's hard to think it was just an accidental od when folks take huge amounts. It's weird how they aren't labeled as a suicide. Monroe's was...but there's mystery to it. The others just overdosed accidentally.

Celebs and rich people in general I think have drs who are more liberal with the amount of drugs they will perscribe. It's fortunate in one sense.

This is all interesting and true, a lot of these aren't technically labeled as suicides, just overdoses. I just wondered if they had access to something we didnt. I also agree that I didn't take into account specifically something like heroin. Celebrity suicides or "overdoses" have always interested me as a suicide survior. And yeah, I've tried several times to overdose as a teen but nothing. Even with metoclopramide and stuff like OxyContin. Don't do it, folks.

Amy actually died of a severe alcohol overdose paired with an eating disorder (bulimia), her heart stopped. She hadn't used any substances aside from alcohol.

First of all, I am deeply sorry to hear you have gastroparesis. Can you eat at all, or do you use a feeding tube?

Second of all, I am pretty sure that for every celebrity OD we read about in the news, there are thousands of regular people we don't hear about. People who fail, or succeed, who remain unknown.
