I had a similar situation, not with psych but another medical situation I couldn't afford, and the hospital adjusted most of the bill but still total medical bills left were between $5000 and $10,000. Since I already had an issue iwth credit card debt I declared bankrupcty to clear the debt. If you don't have other debt the hospital would likely adjust the bill down to something you could pay off over time, but if they don't bankruptcy is an option.

That's still so much..
Failure is absolutely not an option. Like I need more problems.
Off topic, I had a friend who passed from Covid and their bill was over 120k, after adjustment.
It has to be extremely low for this to be an option- even then they maybe leave some balance, like $5000, thinking that over time you wil be able to pay this.,
Still amazes me you have to pay for healthcare in the Us, every everything free here in UK
In Scotland you don't have to pay for your prescriptions either. I would be tucked if I had to do that too
