I once watched a NYT interviews with Curtis Yarvin. Honestly, I did not manage to watch the full interview. But I can remember he talked pejoratively about people who believe what the NYT is writing. In a smug - Curtis Yarvin like way.
Newer members probably don't know the NYT once published a long article about this forum. And there was some misinformation in it.
Some say the NYT is the gold standard of reporting. Personally, I don't read US outlets that often. But from what I have heard there are very tame towards the Trump administration, trying to appease him like most outlets. I think the NYT doesn't criticize the system enough. Most of the things they write is in the spectrum of legitimate criticism perceived by the mainstream.
Personally, I think the US healthcare system is a joke and anyone who defends candidates in favor of the current system should be seen as very questionable. Would I have voted for Biden or Harris still? Yes, pretty sure. But that's a different topic.
There are a lot of things happening in the US which is not reported about critically enough in mainstream outlets. I don't say independent media is better in every instance. But there are some gems out there who give you a better picture of what is happening. Are there way worse people in independent media than in MSM. Pretty sure yes,
I also asked myself which newspaper in Germany is similar to the NYT or The Economist. And the truth is there are no actual equivalents where I live. I think Germany has a pretty different media landscape compared to the US or UK. In many instances we are more sane and it isn't that toxic. But every day it becomes worse and worse and we adapt to Angle-Saxon standards. In college we compared different media environments. And there were 3 forms Angelsaxon, Western-central Europe and Scandinavia. It is similar to the development of welfare states in these regions. For example, how much the private sector is responsible for providing information.
On Israel Palestine the German media has a lot of mis-and disinformation though. Honestly, if it wasn't Sanctioned Suicide I would not dare to say an opinion about the conflict. Even if I posted a Secular Talk video about this topic I could theoretically be punished. The likelihood is pretty low but Secular Talk often compares Israel with the Nazi Regime which could be counted as demonization of Israel. And the things Slavoj Zizek once said Israel might forfeit its right of existence because of the war crimes would be illegal where I live. It is unlikely you get reported. And I emphasize I don't fully agree with these statement. But it is a chilling effect. As Slavoj Zizek once said "Yes, boycott Israel. But boycott Germany first."
One thing to add. Probably not all NYT journalists are the same. There are people who are fully conform to the system but some are engaged in important investigative reporting. So it really depends on the story even though there are probably tendencies within editorial staff.
