This idea was borrowed from another user whose account is no longer active. It's a comparison of Earth and Venus. Venus is often described as a terrible, hellish world because of its toxic, hot, inhospitable environment. Earth appears blue. Serene and peaceful. Yet which planet has suffering in it and which has no suffering on it? The inhospitable environment of Venus means nothing without conscious beings to experience suffering. The beauty of Earth means nothing (imo) if the circle of All life is predatory. Earth is like a beautiful siren who tortures you when you're caught in it's grasp. That is something I despise about Earth. How it's beauty is like a form of sinister manipulation. Tricking people into thinking life is good and innocent when the very opposite is true. Earth is a brutal battlefield .People are so easily seduced by life. Like a victim in love with their abuser, most people will defend the goodness of life on Earth, no matter how many horrors exist here. The true hell world is Earth, where all suffering and misery exist.

I had never really thought about hell like this until now. It makes sense. There is so much that can go wrong and so much suffering. Plus a lack of control of the big picture.

For some life is hell, meaningless suffering from cradle to grave. Everything those assholes touch turns into shit. For others, its heaven, even their worst experiences and hardest struggles have some kind of life enriching "meaning" to them. Everything those assholes touch turns into gold. These are the two extremes, most people get something from between.

People "defending the goodness of life" are just defending their own lives. Just like people who want to end it all at their cores just want to end their own lives. It's quite hard not to impose your own set of values on others.

This world really is hell. Life is objectively so horrifying and I could never want to live in a world where so much pain exists. To me all life is completely unnecessary as well, we were all perfectly fine not existing until we were forced to live. Life just seems to be suffering for the sake of it, and things could get so much worse for anyone. To me it is horrifying that there is no limit as to how bad things can get in this life.

I agree most people feel between the two extremes. If that wasn't true, Everyone would probably want to kill themselves and evolution could no longer play it's bloody game if that happened. I think we agree there's more people that struggle than easily prosper in life. There can be no king without a great number of servants supporting him. No bill gates' without million (s) of financially average people. Projection is a very dangerous thing. Most people do seem to struggle with it. This is not a comforting thought though. It's just another dangerous aspect of the human species. No matter how someone feels about their life, it helps no one to deny the cruel, brutal and unfair reality of life universally. Life is not fair for anyone, even if they are happy.

I see hell not as a place, but a state of being. For example, It's been two months since I'm in absolute hell. That's just how it is.
Planet Earth, however, is the only place in our solar system where life can exist. As such, it is way more hellish than anywhere else. There's no debate about that. Earth is a place we're born to suffer.

i agree . However imo the Earth is just a very small rock floating in the endless void of space. What creates the hell is DNA. Around 4 billion years ago a molecule became able to replicate itself . That molecule was DNA. imo and that of most science all life has descended from this single molecule.

imo 500 million years ago DNA and evolution created a brain and nervous system that can feel extreme pain. every animal since then including humans has been constantly tortured by DNA/life/evolution through constant hunger, thirst, pain, injury , diseases, predation , suffering, cold weather, hot weather, parasites, bacteria, old age etc. The animal has to work constantly to avoid the pain of hunger, thirst , cold weather, predation, accidents, etc etc and all for no purpose imo because the DNA molecule was an accident of chemistry and physics, a mutant molecule mutating for no purpose

The fact that DNA has a single language called the Genetic code imo proves that all life descended from this one molecule. There could have been billions of different languages developed to code for different amino acids but every species has the exact same genetic code .

I think it depends on the person. For some of us the real hell is here on Earth but there are some people who see life as a very beautiful thing even if they know others are being tortured by life.

Beautifully said tbh.
I look at life and see both heaven and hell. Personally I can't stop thinking about the Egg by Kurzgesagt.
Although I think earth is what you make it.

Idk, it's all convoluted and complicated. I'd rather not think about it for when I eventually catch the bus!

I wonder if humans are the cause of most suffering on this planet. After all, we are the only animals that are detrimental to an ecosystem.

Neptune is another blue planet in the solar system that could be considered "beautiful" and even "peaceful".
Voyager 2 image of the planet neptune nasa 1
Unlike Earth, however, this ice giant is truly serene given to its inability to support life, and therefore, the complete absence of suffering.

As for comparing Earth to a "beautiful siren" deceiving its inhabitants into idolizing the wonders of existence, that concept is off track. The planet isn't an organism, let alone a sentient being with motives or intentions. The aesthetics of planet Earth originates from human perceptions and indoctrination. Most humans internalize their inhabitance of Earth as an essential part of their identity. Glorifying their perceptions of their home planet beautifies and validates their own ego and existence. Aesthetics in general is one of pleasures most humans will greedily latch onto, extoll it as evidence for the superiority of life, and utilize as leverage for exploitation, domination, and control. In the third case, imposing existence and longevity onto themselves, other humans, and other organisms deemed "valuable". All in all, humans are the real manipulators venerating planet Earth as "beautiful", "innocent", and "peaceful"; concealing and minimizing the grim realities of life; and deceiving themselves (individually and as a species) for their egoistic purposes.
