Interesting thread, but serial killers just don't interest me too much, although I did Google several names on here to read about some. None peaked my personal interest. Go ahead and pick one for me. :blarg:

Jeffrey Dahmer. I don't know that much about many serial killers, but I've looked up more on Dahmer because he's from my state.
(Disclaimer: I know nothing about sports so no clue how accurate this is and don't care.)

Ted Kaczynsk, the Unabomber, was interesting to me only because he was so reclusive in his little cabin out on the wilderness. The concept of being isolated interest me. FYI if you don't know the story Kaczynski was apparently a brilliant mathematician and I believe he was a professor at the University of Michigan before his mental health deteriorated and he left. Sad story.

Jeffrey Dahmer for the way he coped with his fear of abandonment through killing and preserving hos victims bodies but also his guilt for his actions.

The Zodiac killer. Mainly because- while it in no way condones their actions, other killer's motives are more obvious. It often seems to be a sexual motive with male killers. Or, at least power.

Maybe it was for him too. They definitely seemed power motivated. Even the encripted notes were a way of demonstrating power- that he could outsmart everyone.

Netflix did a documentaty on: 'This is the Zodiac Speaking.' If it was indeed the man they suspected, it's kind of terrifying how much of a double life he managed to sustain. I suppose that's what terrifies/ fascinates me the most. When people are capable of living a double life and, hiding in plain sight. I think with a lot though, you do still get people coming forward that they gave off 'creepy' or, slightly abnormal vibes.

I suppose it is an intesrest. I do have a fascination with them. Definitely not an admiration. More, a morbid kind of horror that people are capable of it. Probably also confirmation bias that it's wise not to trust people. The worst case scenarios are really bad.

Serial killers per se don't terribly interest me and I don't really know much about American ones. Going a wee bit off topic, here in Britain Dr Shipman, a General Practitioner, did attract my attention as he was a successfull and apparently dedicated family Doctor during the many years he was apparently bumping off his patients.

Not a "most interested" but I always have a laugh no matter what at John Wayne Gacy's adamant defense that he was in fact Not homosexual. He claimed he was rather bisexual, which in his dictionary meant he didn't feel sexual attraction towards men, or at all, and all the gay sex he had exclusively was just elaborate emotionless wanking apparently.
The fact he had around 30 young men buried under his house was just a weird coincidence. Like they could've been women but apparently he found none around or smth. Cos he aint gay he swears. And his wife divorced him cos he kept inviting men at his house.
It's so funny to hear his confession audios cos he's like stoppping the otherwise Horrible story every once in a while to say the equivalent of "but No Homo"... like buddy... you are confessing to way worse than that just...

Sadistic psychopath. She recently tried appealing but didn't show and her lawyer dropped it. She attacked a nurse not long ago

Anyone watching the MGM+ Hillside Stranglers series? A woman who was forced into prostitution by Buono & Bianchi claims they got the police badges they used to detain the victims off cops that used the prostitutes at Buono's upholstery shop. I've never heard this accusation before.

Zodiac will always fascinate me beyond words. The fact remains he's the most mysterious serial killer to date.

Also Ted Bundy, Richard Ramirez, and Gary Ridgeway.

It's a little wild what some homophobia will do to you.

Me and my cousin considered his abusing me to essentially be just wrestling and roughhousing—and punishments we agreed I deserved—and it's still pretty hard for me to recategorize it as a boy—and eventually a man—raping a boy—and then a man. Like eww. I can still feel that call to pretend like this is just charades.

He taught me well enough so that I still feel like it's an unspeakable insult to imply the abuse had anything to do with any attraction to males we might have had—even after I came out.

I just wanted him to think I was cool. Now I'm almost the age he was when he died from liver failure 🍻

I still feel shitty about how I make him sound gay right here. I hate this story. I hate having eventually fallen in love with an abuser and fucking cousin. I hate that I still fucking miss him.

Reading about the Toybox Killer was pretty neat, especially since transcripts of the audio tapes he'd play are available.

I find this case fascinating. If his identity is officially ever revealed, this may be the ONLY reason to not kill myself. I would want to live until his identity is officially revealed.

It's a tie between 2 for me. Edmund Kemper and The Zodiac.

KEMPER:
I like him because of what he did at trial. He asked to receive the death penalty but was denied it. And since he was put in prison, he has stated that he never wants to be let out because he's afraid that he'll start killing again. So he acknowledges his mentality and brutality and wants to keep himself out of situations that may trigger him to start killing again. You have to respect his level of self awareness.

ZODIAC:
It's really simple why. He was a genius. He left cyphers that only he knew how to decode. True enough, one has been partially decoded, but that was over 40 years after his killings stopped. He has never been caught, accurately profiled, or even had a half decent description. There is almost nothing known about him. And the little that IS known about him is circumstantial at best. He's like a modern day Jack The Ripper.

BONUS KILLER:
Spring Heeled Jack. He terrorized the UK in the 19th century. Most people who have studied him have agreed that he wasn't human. He possessed abilities that no human could do. Such as leaping over houses from a standstill.
Here's the wikipedia page about him.
