I am saving my money to go somewhere in the world, where I will not be found. I'm wondering if anyone else has that desire, and if so, do you have any ideas on where would be a good place. Finances are a bit tight. I've considered northern Iceland, Patagonia, various forests in Europe. I have no desire for my family to know what has happened nor do I want a funeral.

You can check out parts of Patagonia on you tube , do a search for" itchy boots" she is riding around the world on her motorbike and is in Patagonia at the moment then heading to Chile I think, excellent videos and the scenery is excellent. It may give you some ideas .

Just saw this on another thread but here in the US we have something called Missing 411 which is like a missing persons report when someone goes hiking and then disappears. Maybe wherever you are has something similar to help you get ideas.

Missing 411 is weird , lots of people within national parks just disappear , there are some really strange circumstances that no one can explain . Ideal if you want to disappear !

Thank you, I just checked her out, I will watch some. I've considered Patagonia, after going to Peru. Ayahuasca is my last ditch attempt for healing, then after that I don't know, but that's on the way.

I'm not sure we're thinking of the same thing here. I'm thinking of disappearing in the depths of the oceans.

Indeed. You would have to use carefully applied weights to not resurface. There's a risk your body will be found eventually, but the same goes for any place on earth. As for drowning, you'd have to drug yourself heavily before jumping, or preferably falling unconscious, into the sea. It's not a method that I would use, but there's no denying that it's one of the safest ways to disappear and it is, or at least can be, a comparatively cheap method too.

Yes it's too difficult. The only thing I've been contemplating and considering if jumping from a high height, and there are places where humans rarely wander off into, wooden wilderness, deserts in southwest USA, mountainous regions, Patagonia and the like. It's not common knowledge but there are countries like Sweden that have literally over 220,000 islands, look that up, it's mind boggling..."which country as the most islands"...these are not only uninhabited but I would bet many have not even been visited.

I happen to be Scandinavian. I'm not sure picking a Swedish island is a good choice. The mountainous northwestern part is vast and uninhabitated, though. Crashed German bombers from the Second World War lay there undisturbed for many years and that was not even in the most remote areas. There are also vast and uninhabited areas in inner Finland and that might be an even better choice as it's difficult to access these areas. However, there are few or no communications, so you have to be prepared for a long walk or get a motocross bike or a snowmobile if you go there in winter.

yes, i had actually considered Finland, not Sweden...i just mentioned Sweden because it has even more, the most anywhere. But that is fascinating information. I would never go in winter, and I absolutely hate the cold. I have a progressive illness, which is not yet incredibly painful and I can still walk, but I don't know for how long. I am only considering this for the future when either one of those things begin to happen, so it depends on what time of year that happens. So Finland is a long shot because it's almost always cold! lol. All of Scandavia really. I've contemplated northern Iceland. And to be frank, I have a fascination with that country. It looks so beautiful. Thank you for sharing information, Sensei.

Not as cold as one might think. The summer months are lovely, so lovely that expats living in exotic countries often return home these months, so if you go to Scandinavai May-August you will certainly not freeze. The winters are admittedly longer and colder than in Central and Western Europe, but nowadays they aren't particularly cold. You see, I'm no friend of cold either and I don't think it's too bad.

I've always wanted to go to Iceland too. It truly seems to be a beautiful place. I very much doubt that it's a good place to disappear, though, as the few forests that can be found there are very small. If you go out hiking and disappear, they will probably be able to spot your body from an airplane.

I kind of thought that might be the case. I noticed a Sinead O'Connor quote. She has gotten me thru some very tough times. I love her.

yes it is. I come from a violent abusive household and I relate to her very much, The Healing Room saved my life at one point, I have to say. I think her work and honesty has kept a lot of us going. And for her to be suicidal for so long while saving others from it over the years, well, rather ironic. I believe we should all have full choice over our lives and body, but do wish for anyone to explore all options as best as they can. She doesn't realize how many people love her...and unconditionally, but with bi-polar, it's hard to see the forest from the trees.

She's a wise woman. I'm bipolar myself and the only person who has been able to describe how it really feels is her: "Every pore of you is crying and you don't even understand why or what. I actually kind of died and got born again as a result of taking the meds and having a chance to, you know, build a life." I hope she will be able to resist her death wish and sort things out, but I'm not very optimistic, to be honest.

What about going to Pegasos, Barty, if you are ill or have a health condition? As you say, you would not be found. No one would know you have exited and afterwards they cremate the body.

I saw pics of her at the Pogues wedding, she did look happy for a change...I don't know. Sorry you have to deal with that, my brother.

Hi Asta, I know nothing about Pegasos, I will look it up right now. Thank you.

Oh wait, I have been on their site before. Yes, it's 10,000 euros. I don't have that amount of finances, but thanks for the suggestion.

Hello,
I have hiked in many mountains- you can pretty much go to any mountain wilderness, go off trail and probably won't be found if you wander miles off trail. Some places to consider:
Alaska (you can drive hours without seeing anyone, it is vast)
Montana
Rockies on Canadian side
Iceland
the Himalaya from any side India orTibet any Himalayan range, not necessarily Everest, which I would avoid.
Japan Aokigahara forest known as "suicide forest".
Australian Outback (I haven't been there but seen some stories about people getting lost, unintentionally, and dying of thirst). I guess one could say that about any desert Sahara etc, if one wanted to die in a desolate and arid place.

I actually went to Montana with that intention. It was already snowing in October and Glacier National Park roads were closed, with only a few open. I drove to Bowman Lake, which is unpaved, bumpy road with a beautiful lake. I got scared at night in pitch dark with potentially bears lurking, and decided to return home and do it in a hotel after New Year. I guess I wanted closure with my body being found and cremated. But I did think a lot about wanting to get lost in the wide open prairie in the "Big Sky" State, or near one of the beautiful lakes in GNP. Two Medicine and Many Glacier area there are fabulous and I thought of how hard life must have been for native Americans or early settlers. Hikes there are spectacular and one could essentially go off trail and get lost. Two Medicine and Many Glacier are difficult to access in the winter though, as roads close. There was already 5 ft of snow early Oct when I went and it was very windy and bitterly cold. There was hardly anyone around since park hotels and campgrounds were closed for winter. I guess no one would stop you if you walk in the park and not drive in. But it would be a very long walk from the entrance to the lake areas.

One can easily get lost in any mountains. I don't know where you are but any mountain range close by should work.

Good luck.

It's preferable if not close by, I'm in the U.S. and I don't want to be here at all...in a sense, some things about where to be is meaningful to me. I do believe one's state of mind affects the transition, and where you will spend time after you leave your body. Nothing is forever, but one will end up in a dark place, if one's pysche is in a dark place. Just my theory. I do have a love for the desert of the Southwest in the states, but after that, how I feel about being in America...oh I could go on and on. I keep picturing mountainous, yes, but in Europe, I think. Personally, I don't want closure, my health is declining, I'm the scapegoat of the family, I have no desire for my death to be celebrated by my family. They're monstrous narcissists. But I want to be in nature. You don't have a strong need for that? I'm a hiker myself..to me that where spirit most resides. Like I said I believe, it will affect one's state while transitioning. But maybe you don't feel strongly about that belief, I don't know.

Everyone is different, with different beliefs. I don't believe there is anything after we die- nothing, so I don't see my spirit as wandering in some dark place. I have hiked all over the world, so while I love nature I don't want my body lying somewhere alone in the dirt eaten by animals and then maybe discovered by some unsuspecting backcountry hiker who may stumble upon it and be traumatized by the state it might be in by then. I also don't want to create work for the Rangers, since depending on where they find you, it can take days/ hours to bring the body back. I have seen rescues in Colorado Rockies where many tourists would do stupid things and the Rangers had to rescue them at cost of $10,000 plus. I just don't want to be a bother to strangers. I want to go quietly, with least trouble. I don't care if society didn't treat me well, I am not going to stoop to their level and cause trouble to others who did me no wrong.

I'm going to do it in a hotel, and while I feel guilty about that as well, I am going to leave some extra money for them for their inconvenience. I prefer to be cremated, clean end to all my cells and destruction of DNA forever. The only other place I wouldn't mind is burial at deep sea, but it is impossible to achieve without help from someone who can drive a boat and dump body. Where is Dexter when you need him, eh?

I had my fill of nature in one last trip to several spectacular National Parks this Aug-Nov. i can just watch my videos before I die. I love all National Parks in USA. I don't feel like you do to be away from USA. I think America is beautiful. I separate the natural beauty of this land from the people I encountered or politics. I have no family or friends who care about me. Even so, I feel people have nothing to do with how beautiful the land is. Nature is one true thing and the beauty of American land, it's mountains is unquestionable. Without divulging my location, I can say I live in a beautiful state so I can still see beautiful things from my window. I am a big fan of America "the beautiful", in terms of its natural beauty. I always tell Americans to support its National Parks and visit all of them vs going overseas, if they don't have a lot of money.

The Himalaya are jaw dropping beautiful, but I wouldn't want to die in Nepal, Tibet or India. Yuk. No way. The Swiss Alps are beautiful but frankly I found the Swiss (mind you only what I experienced, not a generalization) not very friendly people. I did not enjoy it as much, people wise. The country I absolutely love is New Zealand- it is beautiful, with Kiwis being the nicest people in the entire world. I wouldn't mind dying there. I considered Bay of Islands, Milford or Mt.Cook. But frankly, the Colorado 14,000 ft mountains, or GNP of Montana, are way more beautiful than the Southern Alps of NZ. I can name 100's of beautiful spots I have hiked, in the RMNP, that tourists don't go to. I just don't see the need to find spectacular beauty anywhere else when it is right here at my doorstep in the USA. It is memorable - purple mountain majesties and from sea to shining sea- Denali, Yosemite, GNP, RMNP, Hawaii, Grand Canyon, New Hampshire White Mtns, Blue Ridge Mountains....take your pick. Any direction you pick in the USA- N, S, E, W, you will find a gorgeous National Park. So I guess I respectfully have to disagree with you.
But I do hope you find your perfect spot. However, if as you said it is all in your mind/ psyche then, if you are not at peace with it, there is no spot on this Earth that will be good enough. Good luck and peaceful journey to you.

Under the sea,
wonderful words and information...and thank you. Oh yes, America has many beautiful places, it's more about how I feel about being in this country, on a personal level, I have a hard time separating the people and politics. How I feel when I'm back here as opposed to when I'm on a long journey, was nomadic for years thru Central, South America and Europe. My walking ability is becoming quesionable, I hate to miss India! And your right, if you are at peace when you make this decision, anywhere will be fine.
